Dear Friend,
Donald Trump campaigned on the promise of bringing down costs. His administration has done the opposite.
According to a new report from the Joint Economic Committee, as of September 2026, the average household in Illinois’ 11th District has paid more than $5,800 in additional costs since Trump took office. Here’s a breakdown:
- Housing: The average household in our district has spent an additional $1,421 on housing since Trump took office.
- Groceries: Grocery prices are now more than 4 percent higher than when Trump took office. Ground beef has climbed to a record high of more than $7 per pound, and coffee now costs more than $9 per pound on average.
- Gas: Since the start of Trump’s war in Iran, gas has cost the average family in our district an additional $781.
- Electricity: Families in IL-11 spent an additional $201 on electricity in 2025 compared with 2024—and costs have continued to climb in 2026.
- Health Care: After Trump and Congressional Republicans refused to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits, monthly premiums for ACA plans rose more than 50 percent on average this year. Average deductibles also increased by more than $1,000.
Families should not have to choose between putting food on the table, keeping the lights on, and getting the health care they need. As your representative, I will keep fighting to lower costs, restore the ACA tax credits, and push back against the Trump Administration’s policies making everyday life more expensive.
Sincerely,
Bill Foster Member of Congress
