The shutdown may be over, but its impact still echoes in every family I met over the past 43 days—from farmers struggling to keep their land to parents choosing between groceries and medicine. That’s why I showed up in our communities: to hear directly from Marylanders about their challenges and concerns, and to remind Washington of what it too often forgets—this isn’t about politics, it’s about people. I’ll keep showing up until affordable health care and stability are no longer up for debate. My office is here for you, ready to listen as we work together toward a brighter future for our neighbors.

��The Fight for Affordable Health Care Continues
As a result of the continuing resolution’s passage, more than 24 million Americans are expected to see their health care premiums more than double in 2026. In Maryland, for those who depend on the Affordable Care Act (ACA), individuals could see their health premiums jump from $591 to $1,760 a month for next year—a $1,169 hike for a nearly identical plan—because ACA tax credits were not extended.
I remain committed to working toward solutions that make health care more affordable and will continue encouraging lawmakers on both sides to support measures that prevent these price hikes.

❌Disrupted Food Assistance in November
During the shutdown, I was proud to visit our district’s food banks as they stepped up to feed families—including unpaid federal workers—while the Administration and USDA failed to use required emergency funds, leaving many without vital nutrition support. This had a significant impact on our food pantries and goes against my core values—and the values of all Americans—that no one in our country should go hungry, especially children, seniors, and veterans.
Today, 1 in 9 Maryland families relies on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), half of them children. Food security should never be political; working families deserve a dependable safety net. I urged the USDA to release full November SNAP benefits to avoid further hardship, and thank Governor Wes Moore for stepping up state resources to help our food banks and support our neighbors through this uncertainty. The most up to date information for SNAP recipients can be found on MarylandBenefits.gov. I’ll keep working to ensure they—and our most vulnerable residents—have the resources they need.

⚖️Court Updates
The courts continue to play a critical role in slowing down overreach.
Tariffs at the Supreme Court: Last week, the Supreme Court appeared deeply skeptical of Trump’s sweeping global tariffs — which have raised prices for consumers and hurt small businesses.
Trump has tried to use emergency powers to impose tariffs without Congress, but three federal courts have already ruled this unlawful, and House Democrats have challenged the overreach in multiple briefs.
The Court now has a chance to reaffirm that tariff authority belongs to Congress, not the president.
��A Dose of Hope
This week’s Dose of Hope comes from the Veterans Day events across our district. I joined celebrations in Frederick, Brunswick, and Washington County, where communities gathered to honor the service and sacrifice of those who have worn our nation’s uniform. Our community’s gratitude, unity, and commitment to one another on full display were a powerful reminder of the values that bind us together.
