Dear ,
Last week marked the House’s first full week of legislative business since the shutdown ended, and it certainly came with its challenges and setbacks. It was deeply disappointing that, instead of focusing on how Congress can expand healthcare coverage for the American people or tackle affordability issues, the focus was on divisive messaging bills and censures of multiple House members. I will continue to fight for transparency and accountability among officials, push back against corruption, stand up for our government workers, farmers, and communities impacted by reckless tariff policies and budget cuts, and remain laser-focused on a legislative agenda grounded in common-sense work that delivers for my district and the American people.
Even amid the tensions in Washington, my office made meaningful progress this week by advancing and introducing legislation to support our most vulnerable communities and moving key projects forward. Read more about these bills below. On another positive note, I am donating the equivalent of my take-home salary accrued during the shutdown to six food banks and pantries across the district. This is intended to help address food insecurity in the 6th District, a challenge amplified by cuts to SNAP, economic instability, and widespread job losses due to agency RIFs and workforce reductions. I believe it is imperative that we all do what we can to help our neighbors in need; in doing so, we strengthen our communities and nourish our own souls.
In closing, I fervently hope this Thanksgiving season provides an opportunity to pause, reconnect with family, and ground one another in service and gratitude. My aspiration is that the example set in our communities—through your generosity, patience, and commitment to one another, particularly in the wake of a shutdown that strained so many—continues to guide the work we do here in Washington. Wishing you and your loved ones a restorative and meaningful holiday.

New Legislation to Protect Kids Online
Last week, I was very excited to advance a bipartisan bill, the Algorithm Accountability Act, aimed at protecting children and families by imposing a duty of care on Big Tech for algorithms that could foreseeably cause harm or injury. For far too long, these platforms have been able to hide behind blanket immunity. As a mom of four daughters, I believe it is time these companies assume responsibility for the injuries suffered by families.
My New Bills to Put American Farmers First
As the daughter of an Idaho potato farmer, supporting farmers is personal for me. That’s why last week, I introduced two bills to support our local farmers and invest in farming communities:
- The American Farmers First Act redirects $20 billion in taxpayer money, originally slated for Argentina, to support American farmers who have been hard hit by tariffs, inflationary pressures, and cuts to USDA programs. Farming bankruptcies are up 57% this year compared to last, and I am committed to helping our farmers and rural communities thrive.
- The Bringing Assistance to Rural Needs during Shutdowns (BARNS) Act safeguards our farming communities from future government shutdowns by ensuring that the Farm Services Agency (FSA) is considered essential and remains open regardless of a lapse in federal funding. Politics should never inhibit the prosperity of American farms.
I will keep pushing to pass these bills into law so American farmers get the support they need and our local communities can thrive.
Investing in Local Community Projects
I’m proud to share that I’m bringing home $6.7 million in federal dollars for seven local projects that support clean drinking water, foster youth, public safety, and rural health care.
When I first took office, I traveled far and wide across Maryland’s 6th District, meeting with community leaders and advocates to identify local projects that could make the greatest impact on our communities with federal dollars. Now that seven of those projects have been signed into law, I am eager to see firsthand how these funds will make life easier and safer for our families. Learn more about the community projects here.
AstraZeneca Announces $2 Billion Expansion in Frederick and Montgomery Counties, Creating 2,600 Jobs
Last Friday, I was proud to join Governor Wes Moore and AstraZeneca CEO Pascal Soriot to celebrate the company’s $2 billion expansion in our district, which is expected to create nearly 2,600 new jobs. This is tremendous news on so many fronts: for patients worldwide, for workers and communities across our region, and for partners that fuel the entire I-270 Technology Corridor. It marks an exciting new chapter—supporting thousands of workers, small businesses, and families while advancing the development of life-changing medicines.
Judiciary Update
Republicans and Democrats alike have raised the alarm in the House after Senate Republicans quietly inserted a blatant self-dealing provision into their spending bill.
The measure would grant a handful of Republican Senators a personal payday of at least $1 million each — funded by U.S. taxpayers.
House Democrats are pushing back aggressively and working to ensure this corrupt provision never becomes law. Public service should never be used for personal profit, and Congress must remain vigilant against abuse of power.
The cases against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James were dropped! These cases were always about political retribution. The Administration’s decision to install a former White House aide as the prosecutor when career prosecutors refused backfired.
A Dose of Hope
Despite this Administration’s efforts to fracture a strong U.S. presence at COP30 in Brazil this month, my colleagues and I reaffirmed our commitment to sustainability from Washington. I was proud to join Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, my colleagues on the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition to underscore the importance of our clean energy economy, global competitiveness, and the pressing need to address the climate crisis.
Together, we can lay the groundwork for full U.S. re-engagement and net-zero progress in the years to come. Progress starts close to home, and together we can build a healthier, more sustainable future for the next generation. It’s a powerful reminder of what we’re fighting for.
