This past week was busy legislatively and chock-full of constituent meetings. Below, you'll see some of my bills related to resources for emergencies and first responders. My office is also focused on affordability and the challenges faced by our farmers and rural communities. Specifically, I am working to boost U.S. Department of Agriculture funding to address food insecurity, combat the aftermath of natural disasters and emergencies, and stimulate economic development. I also sponsored a bipartisan bill to impose a duty of care and liability on social media algorithms that could foreseeably cause injury or death of family members.  

Given the thriving biotech and emerging tech companies along the I-270 corridor, I was pleased to attend a Congressional reception on biotechnology and meet some of our government and non-profit scientists, including those at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Over the last few days, I was also honored to speak at several legislative update events, including Montgomery County's annual legislative breakfast. On Friday, I convened Washington County stakeholders to start a dialogue about how to creatively and cooperatively address, in a non-partisan way, the many funding cuts which are impacting local budgets, community resources, and the greater economy. I look forward to future discussions and how our counties across the 6th can work together. My New Bill to Strengthen our Emergency Response
When disaster strikes, we must be equipped with the proper infrastructure to reach our communities and keep them safe. I introduced the bipartisan Emergency Alert Grant Fairness Act, which supports our local broadcasters so they can continue delivering life-saving emergency alerts Marylanders depend on.

My New Bill to Help Rural Maryland
I also introduced the Bipartisan Rural Recovery Act of 2025, which ensures that after a disaster, rural communities get the same attention and resources as larger cities. Too often, smaller towns face steep bureaucratic hurdles to access federal recovery programs. Emergencies don’t wait for lengthy application processes — and our communities can’t either.

Currently, USDA recovery efforts take too long to reach communities, and delays the rebuilding of essential infrastructure like telecommunications, water systems, housing, community facilities, and energy services. My bipartisan bill would fix this so that help arrives quickly for the communities that need it most.

Congress must work together and be proactive before another community is devastated by a natural disaster. I was proud to work across the aisle to introduce these commonsense bills that support Marylanders and save lives. Despite the partisan gridlock, I still believe that Congress is at its best when we work together. I look forward to pushing until these critical pieces of legislation are signed into law.

Standing Up for Our AAPI Community
While I remain focused on delivering real relief for Marylanders, my colleagues across the aisle are focused on messaging priorities that do nothing but fuel anti-immigrant sentiment. The Republicans’ PROTECT Our Kids Act, the TRACE Act, and the CLASS Act are solutions in search of a problem. I do not support foreign investments in schools. However, there is no credible evidence—none—that shows a foreign influence exists in any meaningful way in American K-12 schools. These partisan bills only create unnecessary red tape for our K-12 schools without providing any additional resources or support. I voted no.

These three partisan bills may hinder future cultural exchange education programs with Asian countries, fuel anti-Asian sentiment and actions, and place unnecessary reporting burdens on our schools. As a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, I’m proud to represent one of the most diverse districts in Congress. I’ll continue to defend the wide variety of cultures and values that broaden our students’ horizons and build meaningful connections abroad.

A Dose of Hope - Washington County Convening
I invited local officials, nonprofit, and community organization leaders in Washington County to come together for an active brainstorming and planning session on how we can work together, at all levels of government, to fill the gaps left by drastic cuts to federal funding. The tsunami of federal budget cuts impacts every county in Maryland, each with its own unique challenges. I am holding convenings in each county to hear the needs, priorities, and stories of local stakeholders and officials, and build commonsense solutions with the very people who will feel their impact. These county convenings inspire me for the future, because even in the face of adversity, our community is showing up and stepping up to meet the moment.
