My fellow Marylander,
Last Sunday marked the start of Hanukkah. Like so many, I am struggling to process the devastating news of the shootings at Brown University and in Australia. Violence rooted in hate or antisemitism leaves lasting wounds. My heart is with the victims, their families, and their communities. Congress must act to strengthen our gun laws and put an end to the unfathomable violence that continues to devastate our communities—and I will not stop fighting until meaningful action is taken. We must also stop hate speech and the amplification on social media which incites and amplifies this violence.
At moments like this, I find myself reflecting deeply on our values as Americans—who we aspire to be, how we treat one another, and the importance of faith in and respect for our laws, our Constitution, and our public institutions. I continue to believe that Congress is at its best when we come together to deliver real results for the American people. Since taking office, I have worked with members of both parties on common-sense, bipartisan legislation that moves our communities and businesses forward—from safeguarding healthcare, to supporting our government workers, first responders, and firefighters, to protecting our children online and protecting SNAP and Medicaid for our families.
I am equally committed to standing up for our rights and holding our federal government accountable. That includes demanding an immediate tour of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Baltimore facility so I can carry out the constitutionally required oversight of a facility where my constituents are being held inside.
As the year winds down, please know that my congressional office will continue to fight for you—advancing affordability, defending healthcare, and pushing back against Administration cuts, tariffs, and policies that continue to burden working families and businesses across our country.

Demanding Transparency and Accountability from ICE
I have formally demanded answers from ICE Acting Director Patrick Lechleitner, requesting an immediate tour of the ICE Baltimore facility. Marylanders deserve transparency about the treatment of those being detained and how ICE conducts its operations within the 6th District.
Congress has a responsibility to conduct oversight of federal agencies. I will continue pressing for full compliance with the law and accountability from ICE.
Reducing Wasteful Government Spending
Each year, the federal government spends billions of taxpayer dollars to purchase software. However, current management and procurement processes do not provide agencies with adequate transparency and often lead to wasteful spending on duplicative purchases of software licenses. I co-led legislation to change this and save millions in taxpayer dollars. I’m thrilled to share that our SAMOSA Act, bipartisan, bicameral legislation, passed the House this week! Today, we’re one step closer to saving millions of taxpayer dollars and ensuring federal software purchasing is always efficient and effective.
Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act is One Step Closer to Law

The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act is a commonsense, bipartisan bill to give our kids nutritious, whole milk at school. When I met with the Washington County Bureau earlier this year, I learned firsthand how this legislation would benefit their dairy production, which is the largest in our state. I was proud to support this initiative in the House, and this week, it passed the Senate! This is a big win — for our children, and for the hardworking dairy farmers in Maryland's 6th District.

Supporting Health Care Professionals and First Responders
America’s health care workers and first responders step up when our communities are in crisis. It is essential that we safeguard their financial security when they come out of retirement to help our communities during times of emergency. That’s why last week, I introduced the bipartisan Health Care Worker and First Responder Fairness Act. This is commonsense legislation Congress should pass to ensure these public servants are treated with fairness and not financially penalized for their service.
Standing with Maryland Farmers
I was proud to join the Maryland Farm Bureau for its annual convention in Cambridge last week. As the only Marylander on the House Committee on Agriculture, I met with statewide stakeholders and joined the Partners in Policy Roundtable to shed light on how federal policies are shaping the lives of farmers across the state. I’m fighting for legislation that uplifts our producers and addresses their concerns in this critical moment. Farmers want a long-term solution to the Administration’s harmful trade policies, not a quick fix consolation payment.
