Dear Sixth District Neighbor:

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Fourth of July! It was a joy to see so many families celebrating across Maryland's Sixth District and reflecting on the values that unite us as Americans. Our nation's Independence Day gives us a special opportunity to reflect on the journey that has shaped the United States into the country it is today.

We are fortunate that every chapter of America's history can be found right here in Maryland's Sixth District. Last week, I shared a special America 250 edition of this newsletter highlighting just a few of our district's remarkable historic sites as we begin celebrating our nation's 250th birthday. From Revolutionary War forts to Civil War landmarks and the communities that continue shaping our nation's story today, our district is home to an extraordinary piece of America's history. July is National Parks and Recreation Month, there's no better time to explore the many national parks, state parks, historic landmarks, and small towns that make Maryland's Sixth District so special. As the summer continues, I look forward to visiting even more of these remarkable places myself.

The past two weeks have been busy both here at home and in Washington. Alongside celebrating Independence Day across the district, my team and I have been hard at work for Maryland's Sixth District: helping constituents recover money owed from federal agencies,  meeting with residents across our communities, standing up for Western Maryland, and advancing legislation that lowers costs and expands opportunity, every day is focused on serving the people of our district.

Congress has also been debating legislation that has a direct impact on Maryland families. Throughout it all I have remained focused on the issues I hear about most from constituents: lowering everyday costs, making housing more affordable, and ensuring government works for the people it serves, not special interests.

Last year, President Trump and Republicans passed the so-called "One Big Beautiful Bill," delivering the largest cut to Medicaid in history while making deep cuts to SNAP—all while giving more tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations.

According to House Budget Committee Democrats, 28,346 people in Maryland's Sixth District have lost their health care, while another 37,000 residents are now paying higher health insurance premiums because of Republican policies.

One year later, families are still paying more for groceries, gas, housing, and healthcare while the wealthiest Americans continue to benefit.

Legislative Update

Fighting for Affordable Housing
Affordable housing continues to be one of the biggest concerns I hear from families across Maryland's Sixth District.

That's why I proudly voted for the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, the largest housing affordability package in more than three decades. The legislation would build more homes, lower housing costs, expand homeownership, and create more opportunities for working families.

Instead of promptly signing this bipartisan solution into law, President Trump chose to delay its enactment over unrelated political demands. Maryland families deserve action on affordability—not more political games.

Standing Up for Western Maryland

Opposing the ICE Detention Warehouse
The Trump Administration continues to pursue plans to convert the Williamsport warehouse into a massive ICE detention facility. That's why I was proud to lead another letter with members of the Maryland congressional delegation urging the Department of Homeland Security to abandon this proposal. This is not the first time we've made our position clear—and it won't be the last. After hearing from residents across Washington County and Western Maryland through community meetings, public comments, surveys and constituent outreach, one message has been unmistakably clear: this project does not reflect our community's values or priorities. Continuing to pursue this facility would squander additional taxpayer resources while imposing unnecessary costs on our state, local governments, and private partners. We have made our voices heard and the answer remains the same. We have said no, and regardless of how much Donald Trump struggles with being told this– no means no!

Supreme Court Update

The Supreme Court recently concluded one of its most consequential terms in recent memory.

I welcomed the Court's decision rejecting the Administration's attempt to end birthright citizenship through executive action. The Constitution is clear: if you're born in the United States, you're a citizen. No president has the authority to rewrite the Constitution.

I was also deeply disappointed by the Court's decision allowing states to ban transgender student-athletes from participating in school sports. Every child deserves dignity, respect, and the opportunity to belong. I will continue standing up for the rights and freedoms of every Marylander.

Around the Sixth District

Celebrating the Fourth of July
There was no better place to celebrate Independence Day than here in Maryland's Sixth District.

Team McClain Delaney was honored to attend the opening ceremony for Frederick's Fourth of July Celebration, where we had the pleasure of meeting Miss Frederick and Miss Maryland while presenting the City of Frederick with a Congressional Certificate recognizing its longstanding commitment to this beloved Independence Day tradition.

We also joined families from across Montgomery County at Germantown Glory, celebrating America's 250th birthday and enjoying an evening of community, patriotism, and a spectacular fireworks display. Thank you to Montgomery County Recreation for hosting another wonderful celebration.

Opening a Time Capsule from 1976

My staff also had the opportunity to attend the opening of the 1976 Time Capsule at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.

Originally buried during America's Bicentennial by Washington County Community Action Youth Services, the capsule contained fascinating pieces of local history—including school coursebooks from Washington County high schools, an unopened can of Coca-Cola, and even a pair of Wrangler jeans.

As we begin celebrating America's 250th birthday, it was a wonderful reminder that preserving our local history helps connect generations and strengthens the communities we call home.  

Delivering for Maryland's Sixth District

Returning More Than $1.4 Million to Constituents
Helping Marylanders navigate the federal government is one of my office's most important responsibilities.

Since January 1, 2025, my office has helped return more than $1.4 million IRS tax refunds to constituents across Maryland's Sixth District—including nearly $835,000 in IRS tax refunds solely this year returned to hardworking families.

Whether you're dealing with the IRS, Social Security, Medicare, veterans' benefits, passports, immigration, or another federal agency, my team is here to help. If you need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact my district office.
