Dear Sixth District Neighbor,

With Congress in recess, I have been showing up all over my MD-6 district and working with my team to hear directly from my constituents and to learn the issues that are most impacting their lives. The number one issue is that of affordability and that many Maryland working families cannot afford to put food on the table, to fill up their tank or to make their healthcare premiums. And, as school starts up, they are going into debt to pay for their kids’ school supplies. It is a key reason why last spring I launched my Costs Down, Opportunity Up agenda and why I am fighting so hard for policies which will help families make ends meet and get healthcare access.

Team Delaney is also meeting with our farmers and the agriculture industry, particularly given that there is a 47% rise in farm bankruptcies nationally this year due to tariffs, immigration workforce issues and USDA cuts. We have been in constant contact with our farmers, attending our county fairs and I am prioritizing passing a truly beneficial Farm Bill but one which will ensure adequate SNAP funding, fortify our rural communities and support agricultural research and USDA technical assistance. There is also great consternation about the security of the food supply chain given the recent food recalls. For the past 18 months I have been pushing back against Administration cuts at our agencies, including USDA, FDA and other agencies related to research and food safety, and calling for competent leadership to locate the reasons behind recalls, securing resources to protect again future problems and establishing clear communications on how you can protect yourself and trust in our food supplies. As a member of the Agriculture Committee and the Science Space and Technology Committee, I will continue working at both a national level and with our state and local partners here in Maryland to ensure food security and safety.

As for district work during this month of August, I was especially thrilled to attend two National Night Out events and my team attended several more across the district. These events showed what makes our district special: neighbors, local leaders, and first responders coming together to build safer, stronger communities. It is also an opportunity for our community to get to know our law enforcement and first responders and to show appreciation for their tireless public service each and every day. This past week I joined my team in Ocean City for the 2026 Maryland Association of Counties Summer Conference. MACo is an important opportunity to learn from local leaders and work together on the challenges facing our state. My team staffed a constituent services booth and I met individually with each of my 5 counties and their elected leaders, with Ag Secretary Atticks and our Maryland farm bureaus and ag leaders and with multiple labor, school and business leaders.  I also was privileged to speak at the Women of MACo luncheon. What a pleasure to see so much of MD-6 and Maryland there together.

We are also continuing our work in Washington, D.C. with a few key initiatives: This past month I co-led legislation to study at NIH how AI affects children’s learning and development and I joined Congressman Ted Lieu to protect federal buildings from unauthorized and costly renaming. I was also proud to help secure more than $560,000 for research, workforce training, and supportive housing in Western Maryland.

Legislative Update

Investing in Western Maryland’s Future
I believe education is the foundation on which we build our lives. But education does not only mean earning a four-year college degree. Whether someone earns a doctorate, completes a workforce training program, or receives a professional license, every pathway that allows people to strengthen their skills and build a better life deserves our support.

That is why I am proud to have joined Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks in securing $562,851 from the Appalachian Regional Commission for education, workforce development, and supportive housing in Western Maryland. This funding will expand research and student training at Frostburg’s Appalachian Lab, prepare Garrett College students for good-paying welding careers, and provide supportive housing and employment assistance through Archway Station. Western Maryland is full of talent and potential, and these federal investments will help turn that potential into opportunity.

Understanding AI’s Impact in the Classroom
Artificial intelligence is rapidly entering our classrooms, but rigorous research into how it affects our students remains limited. Before this technology becomes deeply embedded in our schools, parents and educators deserve to understand how it could affect children’s learning, attention spans, development, and well-being.

That is why I joined Representatives George Whitesides and Andrea Salinas in introducing the Understanding AI in the Classroom Act. Our legislation directs the National Science Foundation to examine what we currently know about AI’s impact in the classroom and identify where further research is needed.

As a mom of four and a longtime advocate for children’s online safety, I believe AI holds tremendous potential—but it also carries risks when its effects are not fully understood. Innovation in our classrooms must be guided by science, accountability, and what is best for our children.

Protecting Our Public Institutions
I remain committed to protecting our public institutions from political interference. President Trump’s attempts to rename the Kennedy Center and other federal institutions are costly distractions that place one president’s ego above our history and the interests of the American people.

Public service must be about serving the public—not oneself. That is why I partnered with Congressman Ted Lieu to introduce the Congressional Authorization for Federal Building Names Act. Our bill makes clear that only Congress can authorize the renaming of federal property and establishes real penalties for political appointees who knowingly disregard the law.

The names on our federal buildings are not any elected official to give away but rather they belong to all of America. Accountability without consequences is not accountability, and Congress must prevent future administrations from repeating these costly renaming fiascos.

Maryland's Association of Counties’ Summer Conference

Last week in Ocean City I joined hundreds of local, state and federal officials for what was billed as “Build What’s Next” a gathering focused on preparing our counties for long-term growth, modernizing infrastructure and strengthening state-local partnerships.

Conversations like these help shape the decisions that affect our district every day and I’m grateful for the chance to bring these ideas home to our district.

Garrett County Farm Queen Contest

Recently, my team was able to attend the Garrett County Farm Queen Contest at the Garrett County Fair. It was delightful to witness this young generation represent the agricultural community with grace, leadership, confidence, and pride. I want to express my gratitude to all involved in keeping this tradition alive. We must continue to celebrate the tremendous role agriculture plays in Garrett County. A special congratulations to Molly Magruder for her time as the 2025 Garrett County Farm Queen, and best wishes to Autumn Custer, the 2026 Garrett County Farm Queen!

National Night Out

National Night Out brings neighbors, first responders, and local leaders together to strengthen trust and build safer communities. These relationships matter because effective community policing begins with law enforcement understanding and working alongside the people they serve.

I joined National Night Out celebrations in Frederick and Germantown, while members of Team McClain Delaney attended events across the district. From Western Maryland to Montgomery County, it was wonderful to see neighbors connecting with those who serve and protect their communities. Thank you to everyone who organized these gatherings and welcomed our team!

Grand Opening of the Behavior Health Clinic at Greenbrook Mental Wellness Centers

I was honored to attend the grand opening of the Behavioral Health Clinic at Greenbrook Mental Wellness Centers in Rockville. The clinic uses cutting-edge technology and medicine to provide new treatment options for people living with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, including those who have not found relief through previous treatments.

Thank you to Dr. Geoffrey Grammer and Greenbrook’s leadership and partners for their work to expand access to mental health care and remind people that they should never give up hope. There are more innovative treatment options available, and hope for those who need it.

Tour of the D.M. Bowman Workforce Training Center

I recently toured the D.M. Bowman Workforce Training Center in Washington County. The center is home to Hagerstown Community College’s noncredit courses and the Barr Construction Institute, providing hands-on training for students pursuing careers in the skilled trades.

These programs offer Western Marylanders pathways to good-paying jobs, economic security, and successful careers without requiring a traditional four-year degree. Thank you to Dr. Klauber, Hagerstown Community College, our educators, and local industry partners for investing in the workers who keep our communities and economy moving.

Delivering for Maryland's Sixth District

One of the most important responsibilities of my district offices is helping constituents navigate the federal government. Despite the disruption caused by DOGE-driven reductions in force and forced early retirements at federal agencies, Team McClain Delaney continues delivering meaningful results for the people we serve.

Since these federal workforce cuts began, one member of our constituent services team alone has helped return more than $7.6 million to Sixth District residents. These are benefits, refunds, and payments that our constituents earned and were rightfully owed. I am tremendously proud of our team’s professionalism, persistence, and commitment to helping every constituent who contacts our office.
