Dear Sixth District Neighbor,

As summer comes to a close, I want to highlight some of my office’s projects across our amazing and diverse district. From bringing your tax dollars home to meeting directly with Maryland constituents, our team has been hard at work. The best part of serving as your Representative is meeting with our neighbors, seeing progress happening in our communities, and hearing directly from you about the challenges families are facing with respect to access to health care and making ends meet. 

These conversations took us from college classrooms and volunteer firehouses to farms, health centers, and water systems across Western Maryland. Our office has delivered more than $5.5 million in federal funding for STEM education, first responders, rural cancer care, and clean water—and we will continue to listen to local leaders about what more we must do.

Showing up matters and your input guides my work on Capitol Hill – from lowering costs and protecting health care to supporting our farmers and expanding opportunity. The strongest solutions start with the people closest to the challenge, and I will keep listening, working as Team Maryland with our local and state partners and focused on delivering real results for working families.

Take My New Survey on Mass Surveillance
Automatic license plate reading cameras are popping up across the country. Companies like Flock Safety have already set up a national network of 120,000 cameras across 49 states, that read 20 billion license plates per month.

Many Marylanders are concerned that these cameras are used for mass surveillance and violate privacy rights. Congress has opened an investigation into Flock cameras about who has access to their data and what it’s being used for.

Last week my team traveled across western and mountain Maryland – from Frostburg and Westernport to Oakland and Grantsville. Along the way, I met with students, first responders, health care providers, farmers, and local leaders. At every stop, the goal was the same: listen, bring federal tax dollars home, and expand opportunity and affordability for the people I serve. Here are a few highlights from the road.

Stop 1: Strengthening Frostburg State University

Frostburg State University is the only four-year institution in the University System of Maryland located in Western Maryland. It is crucial to providing a quality education for students across Western Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and beyond. I joined FSU's new president, Dr. Shadow Robinson, Senator Chris Van Hollen and  the team of Senator Angela Alsobrooks to discuss how we can strengthen our partnership, advance shared regional goals, and improve FSU's competitiveness across its multistate service area. We celebrated over $3.5 million in federal funding being secured for their STEM education endeavors and to support the new planetarium upgrades.

Delivering $2.8 Million for STEM Education

This investment will support FSU's STEM education programs and enhance science education in Mountain Maryland. Investing in education means investing in a student's future - ensuring that every Marylander has the opportunity to learn and thrive.

Stop 2: Supporting Westernport's First Responders

More than a year ago, devastating floods tore through Mountain Maryland, damaging schools, libraries, community spaces, and the Potomac Fire Company No. 2 firehouse. I remember walking through the flood ravaged community and seeing the extraordinary courage of first responders and local leaders who rushed to protect their neighbors. That same resilience is still alive and well across Mountain Maryland. I was proud to work with the offices of Senators Van Hollen and Alsobrooks to secure $675,000 for a new fire engine to replace the company's 33-year-old apparatus - giving these volunteers, community leaders and local leaders the tools to keep Allegany, Garrett, and Mineral counties safe.

Stop 3: Expanding Rural Cancer Care

Cancer prevention and treatment should not require hours on the road. I worked with Senator Chris Van Hollen and the office of Senator Angela Alsobrooks to secure $1 million to support the planning and design of Garrett Regional Medical Center’s expanded Radiology and Oncology Department. GRMC President and CEO Mark Boucot and his outstanding team have been tireless advocates for bringing these critical services to Garrett County. This investment is an important step toward ensuring patients can spend less time traveling and more time healing, close to their families and community. A special thank you to Mansour, GRMC’s Director of Nutrition, for putting together such a wonderful spread—and to the entire GRMC team for all you do!

Stop 4: Modernizing Oakland's Water System

Our final stop of the day was Oakland - and we ended with something every community deserves: safe, reliable water. Local leaders told me the town's aging system was causing low pressure, so Team Maryland was able to bring home $1 million to fix it. That means dependable water, better fire protection, and the infrastructure needed for 175 homes. Four stops. $5.5 million for science, first responders, cancer care, and clean water. This is your tax money coming home.

Stop 5: Seeing Garrett County Wind Energy in Action

Garrett County is home to Constellation Energy's three wind projects in Maryland, contributing to our state's clean electricity production. I toured the Criterion and Fair Wind projects to see wind energy in action and learn more about Constellation's contributions to clean energy here in Garrett County and nationwide. Criterion, the first wind site in the state, was repowered in the last several years and now produces 40% more energy, increasing the sustainable energy our communities depend on. Constellation collaborates with 50 local land owners in Garrett County to determine wind turbine sites, and because of these partnerships,Constellation contributes to 10% of all emissions free energy in the county. The power these wind projects produce goes directly into the power grid. Producing energy doesn’t have to consume excessive amounts water – and we can do it here in Maryland.

Stop 6: Supporting Local Farmers

At ALL Produce in Oakland, the Lantz family grows more than 100 varieties and distributes fresh food to markets, restaurants, schools, and families using SNAP and WIC. The Lantz family operate multiple farm stands around the county, working together as a family and with the larger community to produce local, fresh produce and flowers. A highlight of this visit was seeing the HEART card used in person, a program that provides access to fresh produce for Medicare patients. I toured their operation to hear what local growers need as we lose critical protections for nutrition, whether it's aimed at production, distribution or testing. As Maryland's only member of the House Agriculture Committee, I am fighting cuts that hurt families and farms - and pushing for a Farm Bill that supports both.

Stop 7: Connecting Food, Farms, and Health

Farm bankruptcies rose 47% in the year since Trump took office. Maryland is facing up to a $323 million SNAP funding shortfall. 1 in 9 Marylanders utilize SNAP, half of them children. A food insecurity crisis could be looming. That is why I am so grateful to have visited Ace’s Run restaurant, owned by the gracious Brenda McDonnell, to speak with community leaders for a Nutrition Roundtable. Members of the Appalachian Farm and Food Alliance (AFFA), Garrett County Health Department, Garrett County Community Schools, and Health and Wellness Educators gathered to share information about the food landscape of Garrett County. Amazing programs were highlighted like Together We Eat Fresh, Nourishing Neighbors Mobile Market and Resource Exchange, Maryland Mondays, and the HEART Card keep families and individuals nourished. I am so grateful for the true teamwork, passion, and incredible people who prioritize our communities' health, wellness, and safety.

Stop 8: Strengthening Rural Outpatient Care

Lastly, our trip concluded with a tour of the newly expanded Mountain Laurel Medical Center in Grantsville. Demand for local, exceptional care has been on the rise and this expansion is designed to meet the needs of the community head-on. This expansion includes addition of medical exam rooms, behavioral health therapy rooms,expansion of offices,meeting space for the care coordination team, and a community pharmacy on the first floor. There is a rising tide of rural hospital closures, but Mountain Laurel continues to persevere for their community

Across every stop, I heard the same thing: our communities know what they need, and they deserve a partner in Congress who listens and delivers. I am grateful to every constituent and community leader who shared their work with me. I will keep fighting to bring resources, lower costs, and expand opportunity in every corner of Maryland's Sixth. Here in Maryland, no one is left behind.

Current News: The Priorities That Matter

Protecting Your Right to Vote by Mail
Voting by mail is safe, secure, and essential for seniors, service members, people with disabilities, rural voters, and working families. The Trump Administration tried to rush through a new USPS rule requiring states to redesign ballot envelopes and submit mail-voter information to the Postal Service just weeks before voting begins. A federal judge has temporarily blocked these rules, but only for 14 days. The federal government should be helping Americans exercise their right to vote—not putting new barriers in their way. This administration cannot rewrite election rules or use the Postal Service to decide whose ballot moves through the mail. I will keep fighting to protect every Marylander's right to vote and have that vote counted.

Demanding Answers on the Food Recalls
As the daughter of a potato farmer, I know our nation’s health and security depend on a safe, reliable food supply. That is why I joined the House Agriculture Committee—to support the farmers and producers who feed America, especially those here in Maryland.

Authorities have tracked 17,000 cases of Cyclospora, while recent recalls have involved blueberries, eggs, lettuce, jalapeño products, soup kits, bread, spices—and the list keeps growing. At the same time, the Trump Administration has cut critical research and staffing at the FDA, USDA, and other agencies responsible for protecting our food supply.

Families deserve to know the food on their tables is safe. I’m demanding answers and fighting to protect the inspectors, research, and resources that keep it that way.

Lower Costs, Not Vanity Projects
Families are struggling with rising costs and wondering whether the food on their tables is safe. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is focused on renaming Lake Ontario, fighting to put his name back on the Kennedy Center, and pursuing one vanity project after another.

His priorities are backwards. Through my Costs Down, Opportunities Up agenda, I am focused on lowering everyday costs, expanding opportunity, protecting our food supply, and making government work for you.

Around the Sixth: 

In addition to our district trip through the Sixth, Team McClain Delaney has been busy attending grand openings of community centers and manufacturing facilities. Each location offers a stronger future for our communities. 

Maryland Deaf Community Center: 

This week, Team McClain Delaney was honored to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Maryland Deaf Community Center– the first center of its kind in our state. The Maryland School for the Deaf is headquartered in our district thus Frederick has been an integral part of Deaf education, culture, and community. This community center will build on this history along with providing a central congregation point for deaf resources. Thank you to everyone who had a part in making this a reality. I am proud to see Frederick continue to be a place where the Deaf community can thrive.

Rohde & Schwarz USA Ribbon Cutting Ceremony 

Recently, my team joined Rohde & Schwarz for the ribbon cutting ceremony for their new manufacturing facility in Frederick. This $40 million investment in Frederick County represents 200+ jobs in Maryland and is instrumental to ensuring the safety and reliability of air traffic communication systems nationwide. Modernization, innovation and opportunity are connected and Rohde and Schwarz demonstrate that clearly. I am proud to uplift companies who are dedicated to making lasting and considerable contributions to the Sixth and our nation at large.

Delivering for Maryland’s Sixth: 

One of the most important responsibilities of my district offices is helping constituents navigate the federal government. Receiving what one is owed from the federal government can sometimes be a labyrinthian task. However, our team prides itself on professionalism, persistence, and commitment to helping every constituent who contacts our office.
