Dear Sixth District Neighbor,

My team and I believe in showing up across the Sixth District, helping constituents, bringing federal dollars home, and listening to you.

That's why I launched my College and Economic Opportunity Tour to visit all of our district colleges and career and technical training institutes to hear first hand from our youth. I want to hear their concerns about jobs, workforce training, Big Tech and AI and how my office can better help them. And, our first stop at Hood College made one thing crystal clear - young people are anxious about their futures.

After a highly informative golf cart tour of campus with President Ricker, I sat down with Hood College's leadership to hear about several issues, like the impacts of the Administration’s cuts to the Department of Education. We also discussed challenges faced by increased college debt loads for students, as well as changes to Pell Grants, with respect to international students. I met with students themselves, and what they told me stuck with me.

Across every conversation, the same worries came up - the cost of living, crushing student debt, and whether AI will wipe out the entry-level jobs that launch careers. As a mother of four, with a daughter still in college, I feel these worries personally. AI can create real opportunities, but without smart guardrails, it could close the door on the first jobs our kids need. And if young people can't find work, how are they supposed to survive this affordability crisis? How can they best train for the jobs of the future? How can we ensure that technology is used to uplift communities, that our energy and water consumption (and economic well-being) is considered with respect to new data centers and that there is real gain systemically being shared.

Our young people deserve better, and I'm going to fight for them.

Thank you to Hood College for kicking off this tour. I can't wait to hear from more young people and look forward to seeing you as we visit these colleges and career training institutes across the 6th District.

Fighting Corruption, Protecting the Public Trust
You deserve a government that works for you, not for people with the right connections. Throughout my first term, I have spoken out when public officials use their positions for personal gain or allow powerful interests to buy influence.

Five months ago, I signed on to the bipartisan Restore Trust in Congress Act, which would ban members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from owning or trading individual stocks. Elected and appointed officials should never profit from inside information. I will keep pushing for stronger rules and real accountability.

I cosponsored a resolution calling on President Trump to submit plans for the luxury jet from Qatar to Congress and seek its consent before accepting it. Now, reporting shows that a Russian businessman close to Vladimir Putin paid for lavish celebrations around Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding. The Trump family calls it a gift. I call it an alarming invitation for foreign influence.

When the ultra-wealthy, large corporations, or foreign adversaries can buy access, they weaken trust in our government and put our national security and economic future at risk. The American people deserve answers and a government that answers to them.

Building a Safer, More Accessible Maryland
One of the most powerful tools Congress has to address district issues is federal funding dollars. These funds provide the most direct impact on constituent lives and well being. I am proud of recent victories Team Maryland has been able to bring home to our state.

Maryland’s airports and aviation industry are crucial for trade and business. This past week I, along with Team Maryland, secured $33,931,039 in funding to make our airports safer, more efficient, and more accessible. Specifically for our district, we secured Hagerstown Regional Airport with the funds necessary to make improvements to its 2/20 runway and adjacent building infrastructure—critical safety upgrades needed to fully comply with FAA guidance. This will support the Sixth’s business by allowing more accessible opportunities for trade and transportation.

In addition, Team Maryland and I recently secured over $48 million in funding to provide critical accessibility upgrades at two legacy Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) stations. Public transportation should work for everyone. These investments will bring Metropolitan Grove and Martin State Airport stations into full ADA compliance because no Marylander should face barriers to safe, reliable transportation. Investments into infrastructure is one of the best ways by which to help our communities through economic development, enhanced transportation to jobs and health services and easing affordability.

My Latest Op-Ed: Restoring Trust in Food Safety
Recently, I wrote an op-ed for The Hill about the growing crisis in our food safety system. Project 2025 and DOGE cuts have hollowed out the federal agencies responsible for protecting families, while delayed recalls and weakened safeguards have made it harder to trust that the food on grocery store shelves is safe.

Congress must restore the food traceability rule and ensure our agencies have the resources to identify outbreaks and remove contaminated products before more people get sick. Some families have already paid the price. We cannot wait for another preventable tragedy to act.

Leading the Next Era of American Biotechnology
Last week, I joined Axios senior health care reporter Caitlin Owens for a live conversation about how AI, scientific breakthroughs, and global competition are reshaping biotechnology.

I highlighted my bipartisan SCALE Biology Act, which advanced unanimously out of committee and is one step closer to a vote on the House floor. My bill would establish a dedicated biometrology program at NIST to create trusted biological measurements and standards. This common language would help researchers harness AI, accelerate new treatments, and bring American innovations to market.

This work is especially important for Maryland’s Sixth District, home to NIST, the I-270 Biotechnology  Corridor, the National Cancer Institute, and the world-class scientists and researchers at Fort Detrick. Advancing this legislation will strengthen our national security, support highly skilled jobs, and reinforce Maryland’s leadership in biotechnology.

I also toured an exhibit celebrating 50 years of Genentech and the scientific breakthroughs that have transformed patients’ lives. America has the talent to lead the next era of biotechnology. I am working to ensure we also have the tools, standards, and investments to make it happen.

Agriculture Committee Celebrates 200th Anniversary
As the daughter of an Idaho potato farmer and Maryland's only member of the House Agriculture Committee, agriculture is personal to me. Farm families are under enormous pressure: Chapter 12 farm bankruptcies rose 46% last year. That makes the committee's work to support farmers, ranchers, and rural communities more urgent than ever.

Last week, I joined Chairman Glenn "GT" Thompson and Ranking Member Angie Craig to mark the committee's 200-year history. We heard about the bipartisan work that has shaped American agriculture, from supporting farmers and rural communities to strengthening the food system that feeds us all. I was also honored to receive a book chronicling two centuries of the committee's history. Two hundred years of service is worth celebrating, but the work is far from finished. We must keep evolving to meet new challenges, protect family farms, and support the people who keep America fed.

Know Your Rights Webinar with CARECEN
What happened in Frederick has left too many families feeling afraid and uncertain. No family should be afraid to leave their home, go to work, take their children to school, or ask for help.

That is why my office is partnering with CARECEN to host a Know Your Rights webinar tonight, Tuesday, September 29 at 6PM. We will share practical information about your rights when interacting with immigration enforcement, what to do if an agent comes to your home, and where to find trusted legal and community resources.

You are not alone, and you deserve to know your rights.

Recently, my team was honored to join the Asian American Center of Frederick for their annual Autumn Festival. The event featured traditional dancers, table tennis, and an opportunity to further engage with constituents. Events like this further highlight the diversity and richness of cultures across our communities.

Festival of India

This past week, my team was honored to attend the Indian Association of Frederick’s India Festival. This event highlighted the cultural contributions of India and Indian culture. A particular highlight of the event was seeing all of the dance performances. This event shows that diversity is our strength, as well as highlighting the cultural diversity of Maryland’s Sixth District.

College and Economic Opportunity Tour: Next Stop, Allegany
With the first stop of my College and Economic Opportunity Tour at Hood College is complete, we are keeping the momentum going across Maryland’s Sixth District. Now, we are heading to Allegany College of Maryland on October 7. From four-year colleges to workforce training programs, I am committed to meeting students where they are, listening to their priorities, and taking their voices back to Congress.

Team McClain Delaney is Here for You

Serving you is my top priority, and nobody should have to fight the federal bureaucracy alone to get the benefits they rightfully earned.

Just last week, one of our caseworkers brought back $500,000 to the Sixth via Employee Retention Credits for businesses across our district. This victory has brought our caseworker, Benton Anthony, up to $1.7 million in returned funds back to the Sixth in only one year! We are here to help, and quite frankly, we are pretty darn good at it.

We take on federal inquiries every single day because my team and I are determined to deliver for the people of Maryland’s 6th District. Whether you need help with veteran benefits, Social Security, passports, or any other federal agency, my office stands ready to help everyone in our community get the answers they deserve.

If you or someone you know is struggling to get a response from a federal agency, please don't hesitate to reach out. You can stop by my district office in Frederick or give us a call at (301) 926-0300. We are here to work for you!

Warmest regards,
