Dear Friend,
Like so many parents, friends, and family members, I am greatly concerned about the increasing use of e-cigarette and vaping products by children, teenagers, and young adults across America.
I believe we urgently need a comprehensive plan to confront this public health crisis. That's why I'm proud to be a member of the newly-established bipartisan Congressional Caucus to End Youth Vaping.
In the House, I have introduced legislation to restrict kid-themed e-cigarette flavors, like cotton candy and bubble gum. I've also co-sponsored legislation to raise the nationwide legal smoking age to 21 years of age, ban television and radio ads for e-cigarette and vaping products, ban online sales of these products to children, and more.
I also wanted to let you know that the Oversight Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy is holding a hearing next Wednesday, September 25th, at 10:00 a.m entitled "Don't Vape: Examining the Outbreak of Lung Disease and CDC’s Urgent Warning Not to Use E-Cigarettes." You can tune into watch the hearing here. I hope you'll follow this important discussion!
I support the Administration’s reported move to ban flavored e-cigarettes and am hopeful we can act swiftly at the federal, state, and local level to counter the increasing and dangerous practice of vaping by America’s young. You can click here to read about local efforts to end vaping in our public schools. Rest assured, I'll continue doing everything I can in Congress to combat this deadly epidemic.
All best,
