Dear constituent,
Over the past few days, I was hard at work for the people of West Michigan. I spent my time visiting and engaging with constituents across the district. It’s so important for representatives to be invested in their community–that’s why I’m back every week, talking to West Michiganders about issues that matter to them and their families.
National Reading Month
I love visiting schools–it is so important to engage with teachers, students, and school administrators about what matters to them. I read to classrooms at five schools across the district. I talked with students across the district about my everyday duties representing them, and how I’m working every day in Congress to pass legislation that supports students. Investing in the Next Generation is a top priority of mine in Congress. I’m a mom of school-aged kids, and I care deeply about the issues that impact young families–because they affect me and my family, too.

Supporting Our Health Care Workers
I also visited two health centers this week to discuss my health policy priorities in Congress. I don’t have to tell West Michiganders that the last few years of the COVID-19 Pandemic have been difficult–we all have felt it. Our healthcare workers have been at the frontlines the entire time–sacrificing so much to keep our families safe. It’s the honor of my lifetime to represent them in Congress.

March Madness
Folks, March Madness season is here! I’ve organized a bipartisan bracket challenge for the new members of Congress. I always say–start with what unites us and go from there. Well, in my family–that’s sports. We’re having fun watching the games and egging each other on in the process. Keep up to date with who’s up and who’s down @RepScholten on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter!
Next week, I’ll split my time between West Michigan and Washington, DC. I’m looking forward to being with the GR Chamber on Monday morning and then finishing out the week with an important vote series in DC.
Funding Friday Feature: School Violence Prevention Program Grant
If you don’t already follow us on social media–here’s another great reason to start! Every Friday, we’re going to feature a new grant or funding opportunity. We’ll put the information here as well, but you can read about it first online. This week's funding feature is the School Violence Protection Program.
And as always, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office at (616) 451-8383.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Hillary Scholten Member of Congress
