Commitment to an Economy That's Strong

Image

President Biden squandered the recovery he inherited—fueling historic inflation and driving our economy into a recession. It’s time for a new direction. Last week, House Republicans unveiled a Commitment to America. This commitment not only outlines an agenda to strengthen the economy, improve safety in our communities, and build a future on freedom, but also was crafted upon policy recommended by policy task forces who have delved into the many crises facing our country.

Fighting for Fiscal Responsibility

Image

On Friday, I cast my vote against yet another spending bill that is a major missed opportunity to restore fiscal responsibility and make significant improvements the American people desperately need. At a time of record-high inflation, record illegal border crossing, and record spending this government spending bill does nothing to address the litany of issues we are facing as a country.

Visiting McAuliffe’s in Addison

Image

This week, I visited McAuliffe’s Meats & Grocery in Addison and saw another reminder of how inflation and supply chain issues continue to impact hard-working families and small businesses. As the Biden administration continues to spend and inflation continues to soar, our economy is shrinking, unemployment is on the rise, savings have been decimated, and many experts anticipate massive job losses. It is time to return to the policies that cut red tape and regulatory burdens, improved workforce opportunity, and ease tax burdens on small businesses.

Protecting our Farmlands

Image

Alarming reports have surfaced of Chinese Communist Party-affiliated corporations buying farmland near our military installations. I signed onto a letter this week to the Departments of Defense, Agriculture, and Treasury to bring attention to this concern and ensure we utilize every tool at our disposal to protect our national security. We must stop these incursions in their tracks and reject provocative actions taken by the CCP. To read this letter, please click here.

Honoring Jackson WWII Veteran

Image

I took to the House floor on Friday to honor Jackson resident Herb Elfring. Herb was serving in Hawaii during the attack on Pearl Harbor and went on to have a distinguished career earning promotions and medals for his bravery in the line of duty. Even after his 100th birthday, Herb remains active in the Jackson community and it was a privilege to honor him this week. Click here to watch this tribute.

Hearing from Small Businesses

Image

Many small businesses across Michigan, like Forest View Lanes in Temperance, struggled to stay afloat because of the extended shutdowns in our state. I had the opportunity to visit this week with Rich and his team, and we are fortunate for the small businesses that continued to persevere and are now poised to expand.
