Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter. It is my greatest honor to represent Michigan's 10th Congressional District. I am here to serve you, my constituents. If you need any help with a federal agency, or want to share your opinion, please reach out to my office.
Agriculture Advisory Council
This week, I announced the formation of my Agriculture Advisory Council. Agriculture is one of the top industries in our district, and no one knows the issues better than the farmers themselves. I've invited farmers from each county of the district, and those who farm different crops and raise livestock to advise me on all the issues that impact them.
I plan to meet with this council regularly. Click here to read more about the council.
Defense Corridor
Recently, I toured facilities within the Defense Corridor in Macomb County. These companies are vital to our national defense and our local economy, and I'm thankful for their continued contributions to southeast Michigan.
General Dynamics Land Systems is headquartered in Sterling Heights and is a producer of tanks and other equipment for our military. Being able to see how these products are developed firsthand helps me better understand the issues I will be working on as a member of the House Armed Services Committee.

Lanzen Incorporated is based out of Romeo and is a manufacturer of parts for defense, transportation and several other industries in Michigan and across the country. The modernization of our tools is required for the continued success and safety of our military. As a manufacturer of armor, Lanzen Incorporated is at the forefront of this process for our troops.
Education and Labor Committee Update
This week, I participated in my first bill markup in the House Education and Labor Committee. This committee markup was to discuss the COVID-19 relief legislation that President Biden has proposed. Unfortunately, instead of delivering results for the American people, the Democrats have decided to put all of their socialist policies into this legislation and make it sound like it is going to help people.
One of the primary parts of the legislation that fell under the Education and Labor Committee jurisdiction was raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour. This pandemic has already hurt our businesses in untold ways, and putting this policy in place would just force thousands more to close. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, this policy would result in the loss of 1.4 million jobs while helping less than 900,000. More people would be hurt than helped by raising the minimum wage.
In December, Congress passed a second COVID relief package. We need to continue our focus on distributing the money from that bill instead of just throwing more money at the situation. As of January, there was still more than $1 trillion from past COVID relief bills that remains unspent. If we keep throwing money at the problem instead of addressing the root cause, our children will suffer. Our national debt continues to rise with no end in sight. It is time we reopen our economy and schools.
Veterans Issues
I recently had the opportunity to visit and tour Macomb County Veterans Services. For too long our veterans have been neglected and not treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. These men and women risked their lives for our country, and we must do better for them. If you are a veteran in need of assistance, please call my office at 586-697-9300.
I am honored to serve in Washington as your Representative and look forward to bringing meaningful change for the American people.
Sincerely,
Lisa McClain Member of Congress |
