Double Standards

Last weekend, while attending protests outside Minneapolis, Congresswoman Maxine Waters told protestors to "get more confrontational" if the Derek Chauvin jury came back with a not guilty verdict. A Member of Congress was directly calling for violence if they did not get their way. As leaders, we are expected to de-escalate the situation. Instead, Congresswoman Waters did the exact opposite.
As I have come to expect in Congress though, because Congresswoman Waters is a Democrat, the majority is not going to punish her for her vile rhetoric. Even though they removed Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committees for comments she made before being elected, there appears to be a different standard for the majority.
The Democrats continue to rule with a double standard. On Monday, I took to the floor to call out this double standard, and instead of having Congresswoman Waters apologize, Speaker Pelosi asked me to apologize, saying, "That woman on the floor should apologize." Throughout my business career, we all had to play by the same rules and follow the same standards, why are there different standards in our Nation's Capitol? If the Democrats didn't have double standards, they would have no standards at all.
Death Tax
On Saturday, I gathered with dozens of farmers from across the 10th District to bring attention to changes to the death tax that are being discussed in the Biden Administration. President Biden is looking at lowering the exemption rate to $3.5 million and eliminating the step-up in basis, which would decimate the family farm and small businesses across the district, state and country.
The COVID pandemic has crippled small businesses over the past year, and instead of doing everything we can to keep them in business, the administration continues to promote policies that will permanently close them, including forcing family farmers to sell to corporations. I am going to continue to bring attention to this issue and fight the implementation of it with every breath I take.

Border Crisis
On Sunday, I visited Starr Commonwealth in Albion to see for myself the facility that President Biden is sending illegal alien children to Michigan. This facility was top of the line. Our tax dollars are going to supporting a facility for illegal aliens that has doctors, organic meals, a lakefront and round the clock security, while millions of Americans are struggling in homelessness, trying to find their next meal or working paycheck to paycheck.
It is upsetting that the leader of our country has decided to put others ahead of Americans. He ran on being a President for the American people. We need to return to the policies of America First and help those in our country before we help others. Thousands of illegal aliens are crossing our southern border every day because of this administration's reckless policies, and I am going to continue to call out the crisis that is happening at our border and work with my colleagues to stop this insanity.
Iran
This week, I joined my colleagues in introducing legislation that will exert maximum pressure on Iran to ensure that they never produce a nuclear weapon. The Biden Administration is looking at rejoining the disastrous and dangerous Iran nuclear deal which will only lead to a nuclearized Iran and less safe world. Our legislation, which includes my bill, the Iran Nuclear Verification Act, will reinstate the sanctions that President Trump issued on Iran to ensure that there is no possibility of them becoming a nuclear state.
DC Statehood
On Thursday, the Democrats passed H.R. 51, making D.C. the 51st state. The Founders were clear, the nation's capital, within it's borders, was not to be a state. If a state had the nation's capital, they would have too much influence in the governing of the entire country.
It was interesting to watch the Democrats debate this legislation. They know that this will be challenged and end up in court, and many of their speeches resembled what they want the court to hear. They forget that making D.C. a state would require an amendment to the Constitution, which has been reaffirmed by Democrat and Republican Justice Departments over the past 50 years.
This is just another power grab by the Democrats. They are struggling to pass all of their socialist policies, so they want to add more liberal senators to the Senate to ram through policies the American people don't approve of. We all know if the nation's capital was a Republican city, the Democrats would never even consider making it a state.
