Seeing the Border Crisis Firsthand
I have been on the southwest border for the past few days witnessing firsthand how the crisis is impacting our country. The situation is continually getting worse and President Biden is doing nothing to fix it. The numbers of illegal aliens crossing our border have dramatically risen over the past few months, and they continue to rise.
With the rise of illegal aliens, our heroic Customs and Border Patrol agents do not have the manpower to stop the drug smugglers that are taking advantage of this crisis. Thousands of pounds of drugs are being smuggled into our country. This is no longer a border state crisis, this impacts the 10th district and the entire nation.
Fighting for Selfridge
This week, I led a bipartisan letter to Acting Secretary of the Air Force John Roth urging him to choose Selfridge Air National Guard Base as the location for the Singapore F-35 Lightning II Combat Aircraft. This agreement would greatly benefit not only Selfridge, but the surrounding communities and Michigan as a whole. I'm thankful for my colleagues in joining me in this effort.

Protecting Americans from the CCP
This week, I introduced the Anti-CCP Espionage via Social Media Act of 2021. This act will require ByteDance to divest themselves from all U.S. data they receive through TikTok. ByteDance has a direct relationship with the Chinese Communist Party and if the CCP asks, ByteDance must give them any and all data requested. This is a national security threat, and we cannot allow China to have access to Americans' data. This commonsense legislation ensures Americans' data is not accessed, stored and nefariously used by the CCP through TikTok.
Furthermore, this legislation directs the U.S. Attorney General to investigate efforts by the People's Republic of China and the Chinese Communist Party to utilize mobile applications to perform espionage on U.S. citizens and report to Congress with the Department of Justice's plan to counter these efforts.

Congressional Art Competition
Congratulations to Kyra Purett from L'anse Creuse High School who won the 2021 Congressional Art Competition with her painting "School Uniform." The talent displayed by high schoolers from across Michigan's 10th District was inspiring.
I look forward to welcoming Kyra to Washington for the unveiling of the painting in the U.S. Capitol Building.
