Protecting Your Tax Dollars
This week, I took to the floor to express my disappointment that President Biden and Speaker Pelosi are breaking longstanding tradition of ensuring your tax dollars do not fund abortions. Since 1976, presidents of both parties have supported keeping the Hyde Amendment in the budget.
The Democrats ran on unity, but they continue to try and divide Americans. A significant majority do not support spending taxpayer dollars on abortion, but instead of listening to the American people, the President has decided to shove his left wing priorities down our throats.
Delivering for MI-10
I am excited to announce that Huron Transit Corporation (HTC) has received a grant of more than $5 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Earlier this year, I wrote a letter recommending this grant. This money is going to help HTC continue providing service to residents in Huron County. This grant will help fund a new 90,000 square foot facility and allow them to find the best opportunities to better serve our neighbors.
Critical Race Theory
This week, during an Education and Labor Committee Hearing, I had the opportunity to question Secretary Miguel Cardona. Critical Race Theory has become a controversial issue throughout the country, but unfortunately, the Democrats refuse to even admit this is a problem.
I directly asked the secretary this, and I'm glad he has acknowledged that Critical Race Theory is being discussed. Now I hope he recognizes how damaging it is to our nation.
Questioning Secretary Austin
On Wednesday, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin testified before the House Armed Services Committee.
I questioned Secretary Austin on how we ensure the Chinese Communist Party does not steal our military's intellectual property. I was glad to hear that the Secretary says every deal is vetted, but I'm disappointed he would not give us specifics.
The CCP is the greatest threat to our nation. They must never be able to steal our military secrets.
Southwest Border Crisis
Today, Vice President Kamala Harris finally visited the border, more than 90 days after she was appointed as border "czar." This crisis is getting worse every single day. I'm hopeful the Vice President met with those that live at the border and those that are impacted, and didn't just use this visit as a photo op.
Next week, I am taking my second trip to the border to continue to see the situation for myself. The policies that President Biden is pushing are encouraging an increased flow of illegal aliens across our border. Our Border Patrol is being stretched thin due to these rising numbers, and it is only allowing criminals to take advantage and use this crisis to smuggle drugs and commit human trafficking atrocities at record levels.
Let me be clear, Michigan may not be a southwest border state, but these drugs are coming to a town near you and these policies are going to hurt our community.
