Restoring Fiscal Order with the Limit, Save, Grow Act

On Wednesday, the House passed the Limit, Save, Grow Act, which will responsibly address the debt ceiling, stop excessive federal spending and inflation, and put our country back on track for sustained economic growth.

It’s time to get serious about the financial health of our country. We cannot continue on the path of excessive government spending, rampant inflation, and ballooning national debt. This plan places limitations on federal government spending, while maintaining current funding levels for national defense, veterans care, and making no cuts to Medicare or Social Security.

Producer Perspectives on the Farm Bill

This week, the House Ag Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit heard testimony from industry stakeholders about how we can make an effective Farm Bill that is written by farmers, for farmers.

I was able to hear from leaders of top ag commodity groups about issues their farmers face and about the need to preserve and strengthen the farm safety net & crop insurance programs as the cornerstone of the Farm Bill.

Special thank you to Minnesota resident and President of the National Corn Growers Association, Tom Haag, for testifying at this week's subcommittee hearing. You can watch my remarks here:

President Yoon's Address to Congress

I was honored to attend Thursday’s joint session of Congress, where the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, delivered an inspiring speech. He spoke about threats to democracy, the importance of safeguarding freedom, and the partnership between our two countries.

South Korea is one of the largest ag export markets for American farmers and has been an ally of the United States for over 70 years. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that we will maintain a strong relationship for decades to come.

Protecting Infrastructure Investments for Rural Communities

I was proud to introduce the Rebuilding Rural Roads Act this week, legislation which gives rural communities greater opportunity to secure infrastructure investments under the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program.

Currently, the definition of “rural area” for eligible applicants under the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program is 200,000 in population or less. The Rebuilding Rural Roads Act would lower the definition to 20,000, putting the Department of Transportation in line with other federal agencies, such as the USDA's Office of Rural Development and the Small Business Administration.

Our small and rural communities are historically at a disadvantage when it comes to receiving federal transportation dollars. Small towns and rural counties shouldn’t have to compete with major cities and urban areas for funding intended for rural communities. The Rebuilding Rural Roads Act would level the playing field for rural America by making sure the eligibility requirements for these grant dollars accurately represent rural communities.

EPA Issues Waiver for Summer E15 Sales

Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it will issue a waiver for the sale of E15 gasoline during the summer driving months. The waiver will go into effect on May 1st, allowing terminals to continue selling E15.

Amidst growing inflation and rising gas prices, Minnesota families depend on biofuels like E15 as a low-cost, environmentally friendly fuel option. While the Biden Administration should have issued a waiver for the summer sale of E15 weeks ago, I am glad that our biofuel producers, fuel retailers, and consumers now have some certainty going into the summer travel season. I will continue to press the administration to make E15 available year-round, lowering gas prices, and helping to end our reliance on foreign countries for our energy needs.
