National Small Business Week

This week is National Small Business Week, when we celebrate the enormous impact of small businesses on our communities. As someone who operates a family-run business, I know firsthand that small businesses are the backbone of our economy; creating jobs, economic growth, and community connections.

Recently, West Oakland Auto Repair in Austin, MN was named the Small Business Administration's 2023 Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year. Congratulations to Jose Carrazco and his team!

Protecting 1031 Exchanges

Farmers, ranchers, and landowners rely on the use of like-kind exchanges to combine acreage, acquire higher-grade land, or generally improve the quality of their operations. In his proposed Fiscal Year 2024 budget, President Biden is seeking to cap like-kind exchanges and step-up in basis, which are both vital tax provisions for the long-term success and economic vitality of farmers, producers, main street businesses, and rural communities.

I was proud to join Rep. Randy Feenstra (IA-04) and 20 of my House colleagues in urging President Biden to abandon his plans to cap like-kind exchanges for southern Minnesota farmers and Main Street businesses. You can read the full letter here.
