Investigation into U of M Discrimination

Yesterday, I was joined by my fellow Minnesota Republican House Members, as well as House Education and the Workforce Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development Chairman Burgess Owens (UT-04) in sending a letter to the U.S. Department of Education expressing concern about recent reports of discrimination within an undergraduate internship program at the University of Minnesota open to only non-white applicants.

As a University of Minnesota alumnus, I find it unacceptable that our state’s leading institution of higher education has deprived students of prestigious educational opportunities because of their skin color, which is why my colleagues and I are urging the Department of Education to take immediate action to ensure these discriminatory practices do not continue.

Improving Conservation Programs for Farmers

At Tuesday's House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology, I asked FSA Administrator Zach Ducheneaux how we can improve conservation programs like CRP in the upcoming Farm Bill.

As a proud fourth-generation farmer, I know that farmers are the best environmentalists in the world. We work every day to protect our water and our top soil; not because the federal government tells us to do it, but for the next generation that we're proud to be raising.

Addressing the Fentanyl Crisis

I was proud to stand with my colleagues and vote for the passage of the HALT Fentanyl Act this week. As a co-sponsor of this legislation, I believe it is necessary that we do everything we can to give law enforcement officers the tools they need to keep these lethal drugs off the street, mitigate this deadly crisis, and save lives. Supreme Court Protects Land-Use Rights

This week, the Supreme Court issued its decision in the case of Sackett v. EPA, ruling unanimously in favor of the Sacketts and delivering a resounding blow to the Biden Administration’s push to erode private property rights with its “Waters of the United States” or WOTUS rule.

For too long, this administration has weaponized the Clean Water Act to overburden property owners with unnecessary regulations on every stream, puddle, and creek on their land. I’m glad to see the Supreme Court rule in favor of property owners today, and return to a practical, commonsense implementation of the Clean Water Act, as Congress originally intended.
