Dear Friend,

This week, we are again in Washington as we chip away at legislation to fund the government. As we discussed in last week’s update, our budget process needs a major overhaul. While we continue to work out the details of government funding for the 2023 fiscal year, we will continue our work to ensure any agreement reins in spending, strengthens our national security, and defends personal liberties. However, in the final days of the 117th Congress, there is still important work to attend to.

It has been an honor to recognize several Americans who have given everything in service to the state of Minnesota. Three years ago this month, Avon’s Army National Guard Warrant Officer Candidate Kort M. Plantenberg lost his life alongside fellow Guardsmen Chief Warrant Officer 2 James A. Rogers Jr. and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Charles P. Nord when their helicopter experienced a mid-flight mechanical failure near Saint Cloud.

Last year, we introduced a bill to rename the Avon Post Office in Kort’s honor. This legislation was cosponsored by the entire Minnesota Delegation and was accompanied by two bills from Rep. Michelle Fischbach to honor Charles and James with post offices in the Seventh Congressional District.

We are proud to announce that this week, all three bills were passed on the House floor. Kort, Charles, and James represented the best of Minnesota, and it is fitting that they will now have a permanent memorial in the communities that they sacrificed so much to protect.

Sincerely,
