Dear Friend,
We’re hurtling towards a fiscal death spiral. Every day we fail to address our broken budget process, Americans are footing a bigger bill.

Listen: Congressman Emmer talks about the Fiscal Commission Act on Twin Cities News Talk |
We need a common-sense solution like the Fiscal Commission Act. We cosponsored this bipartisan bill, which passed out of the House Budget Committee last week. The legislation will create a bipartisan Fiscal Commission that will present recommendations to Congress to improve our nation’s medium and long-term financial situation. Importantly, the legislation requires both chambers of Congress to act on these recommendations without amendment or delay.
The Commission will be made up of 16 members, selected by leaders of the House and Senate. The Speaker of the House, the House Minority Leader, the Senate Majority Leader and the Senate Minority Leader will each select four members of the Commission, three members will be from the leader’s respective chamber, and the fourth will be an expert from the private sector.
With our national debt exceeding $34 trillion and climbing, it is clear that “business as usual” is not working. We need to get our fiscal house in order. I am confident that the Fiscal Commission Act will be a key component in our work to rein in reckless spending, bring down our national debt and ease inflation.
Sincerely,
