Committees

I have been appointed to serve on three House committees during the 117th Congress: the House Committee on Agriculture, the House Committee on the Judiciary, and the House Committee on Rules. I was also named chairwoman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Commodity Exchanges, Energy and Credit, R&D, and Broadband. I am looking forward to getting started on these committees – all of which deal with issues critical to the Minnesotans I represent.

Opening our Schools

Many school-aged kids have been unable to attend classes in-person, participate in school-sponsored activities, or even see their friends for nearly a year. Last week, the Centers for Disease Control issued a statement noting that the “preponderance of available evidence” indicates that schools can operate safely with students in the classroom. Unfortunately, President Biden has demonstrated he will only listen to the scientists when it’s politically convenient.

Our children need to be in school – and in addition to re-opening our economy, it is one of my highest priorities. We can safely re-open our economy and bring our kids back to school!

Legislation

I have signed on to several pieces of legislation as a co-sponsor. Here are a few highlights:

• Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act: ensures that infants born alive after a botched abortion receive lifesaving medical care.
  
  
• Defund Planned Parenthood Act: prohibits federal funding for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc., and its affiliate clinics, for one year.
  
  
• Conceal Carry Reciprocity: creates a universal reciprocity so a concealed carry permit in one state is transferable to any other state.
  
  
• A constitutional amendment to limit the U.S. Supreme Court to nine justices.
  
  
• Save America’s Mines Act: prohibits any presidential administration from unilaterally halting the mining of critical minerals on federal lands where mining is currently permissible.
  
  
• Protecting Individuals with Down Syndrome Act: prohibits abortions based on the idea that a baby may or may not have Down Syndrome.
