Overturning the Administration's Unilateral Rules
Extreme liberals are working to limit gun rights across this country. For example, this Administration has been putting out rules. Congress is pushing back on a number of these rules, especially those that infringe on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. One way we can do that is by using a tool called a Congressional Review Act, or CRA, in order to overturn the rule.
You may have heard that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives' (ATF) put out a rule that changes what qualifies as a "short barreled rifle" and forces law-abiding gun owners to dispose of or register their firearms with stabilizing braces. Millions of sportsmen with disabilities, many of them veterans, use stabilizing braces in order to shoot firearms they would otherwise be unable to hold. The ATF rule under this administration makes many of those people felons. I have been speaking out against this initiative for years, and I proudly voted in favor of H. J. Res. 44 , a CRA to overturn this rule.
And, just this month, I cosponsored H.J. Res. 164, a CRA to overturn the revision of firearms license requirements at the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). The rule in question here would create several new regulatory burdens for firearm exporters. It brings the validity of an exporters license from four years to one. If all exporters are required to renew their license each year, there will be a massive backlog for license renewals. It also sets the stage for further regulations targeting specific firearms and parts by separating semi-automatic rifles, pistols, shotguns, and various parts into separate Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN). |
