Dear Friend:

I am working hard in Congress to protect your 2nd Amendment rights and I'm excited to share some of that work with you. And if you know someone you think would be interested in updates on what I've been working on, I encourage you to share this email with them!

Overturning the Administration's Unilateral Rules

Extreme liberals are working to limit gun rights across this country. For example, this Administration has been putting out rules. Congress is pushing back on a number of these rules, especially those that infringe on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. One way we can do that is by using a tool called a Congressional Review Act, or CRA, in order to overturn the rule.

You may have heard that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives' (ATF) put out a rule that changes what qualifies as a "short barreled rifle" and forces law-abiding gun owners to dispose of or register their firearms with stabilizing braces. Millions of sportsmen with disabilities, many of them veterans, use stabilizing braces in order to shoot firearms they would otherwise be unable to hold. The ATF rule under this administration makes many of those people felons. I have been speaking out against this initiative for years, and I proudly voted in favor of H. J. Res. 44 , a CRA to overturn this rule.

And, just this month, I cosponsored H.J. Res. 164, a CRA to overturn the revision of firearms license requirements at the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). The rule in question here would create several new regulatory burdens for firearm exporters. It brings the validity of an exporters license from four years to one. If all exporters are required to renew their license each year, there will be a massive backlog for license renewals. It also sets the stage for further regulations targeting specific firearms and parts by separating semi-automatic rifles, pistols, shotguns, and various parts into separate Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN).

Fighting for Gun Owners and Sellers

I have also cosponsored legislation to protect firearm sales and the carry of firearms.

H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, mandates that a concealed carry permit issued in one state is valid in all states, assuming the permit holder abides by the laws in the state they are in. This fixes the patchwork of the reciprocal states system in which different concealed carry permits are legal.

The ATF recently came out with a new definition of being "engaged in the business" of dealing firearms, expanding the requirement for individuals to become Federal Firearm Licensees, which would burden them with unnecessary regulations and require background checks for what amounts to personal transfers and sales of firearms. I cosponsored H.R. 6734, the Stopping Unconstitutional Background Checks Act, which would prohibit any funding from being used to implement or enforce this new definition.

Yes, even in banking

This year, I cosponsored H.R. 2743, Fair Access to Banking Act. Currently, gun companies and gun owners are vulnerable to discrimination from the banking industry. This bill ensures that financial institutions cannot weaponize woke standards to discriminate against law abiding Americans, including the firearm industry. The bill also establishes the right for a person to bring a civil action for a violation of this bill.
