Marshall Census Update
Last year, Marshall Mayor Bob Byrnes reached out to my office because it had come to the city's attention the Census Bureau had made a mistake in their reporting of their population size. Due to the pandemic, 2020 figures did adequately reflect the city's growth, as student housing was not recorded. In 2023, the city of Marshall submitted a Post-Census Group Quarters Review, which the Census Bureau created to correct the reporting. At the end of the year the Bureau informed the city they had resolved their case, but the city had not received updated figures, so I teamed up with Senator Klobuchar to send a letter to the Bureau and ensure the issue was resolved. I am happy to report that earlier this year the Census Bureau released corrected population estimates, revealing that the city of Marshall continues to grow.
Census numbers determine how much federal funding a city will get for the next ten years, so having accurate reporting is incredibly important. I am proud I was able to help the city of Marshall and I am glad this issue has been resolved. |
