Dear Friend:

This week, the House passed the Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act, which addresses abuses within the nonprofit sector that support terrorism by prohibiting these organizations from maintaining their tax-exempt status if they are found to have provided material support or resources to a terrorist or terrorist-supporting organization.

Shockingly, a number of my Democrat colleagues have pushed back on this straightforward legislation, and would rather spend their time continuing a tirade against former and incoming President Trump.

Rest assured, House Republicans are listening to the American people and we are committed to the security and prosperity of this nation. You can watch my remarks on the House floor here.

Diversifying Domestic Energy Production

Right now, the Department of the Interior is required to hold a competitive lease sale every two years. However, some states have not had a lease sale for much longer than that. This week, the House passed the Committing Leases for Energy Access Now, or CLEAN Act, which will provide certainty for U.S. geothermal energy projects.

Under this legislation, the Secretary of the Interior must hold lease sales annually and must respond to the permit applications within thirty days of receipt to let the applicant know if their application is complete. If it is, the Secretary has another thirty days to issue a final decision. Geothermal energy is clean and renewable, making it a great way to expand America’s energy portfolio and meet our growing demand domestically rather than relying on other nations.

Mobile Office Hours

My office is holding mobile office hours at the Douglas County Library on Wednesday, December 4, from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM. No appointment necessary!

If you have questions or feedback for my office, now is your chance to talk with my congressional staff directly. They can help you with issues such as passport processing, veterans’ needs, tax refunds, Social Security benefits, and also connect them with federal agencies (FEMA, the FSA, and more).

If you aren't able to make this one, keep an eye out for future mobile offices hours across the Seventh District. For any questions, please call my office at 320-403-6100. Input

Farm Bill Update

Like so many, I am disappointed and frustrated that a Farm Bill has not passed this year. Chairman Thompson and the House Ag Committee have worked so hard to build a farm-friendly bill, and a one-year extension is far from the outcome we in the House wanted.

I am sorry to say the blame lies squarely with the Senate. Way back in May the House Ag Committee passed a bipartisan bill that responded to the needs of the farm economy. The Senate waited until this week to release a bill that does not meaningfully strengthen the farm safety net, something that has come up in nearly every single conversation with farmers as essential to the next farm bill. “Too little, too late” is an understatement. I look forward to a Republican Senate and a Senate Ag Committee that will work with us to pass a meaningful farm bill.
