Dear Friend:

This week, the House passed my legislation to rename the Roseau Post Office in honor of Mr. Floyd B. Olson, who served as Postmaster for the community for twenty-five years.

Mr. Olson was a staple in his community. In addition to his nearly thirty years with the Post Office, he was a member of the Rose Free Lutheran Church, Vice President of the Roseau County History Board, and on the Roseau County Fair Board. He looked forward to his Thursday morning coffee crew, love the great outdoors, and took special pride in his six grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.

A man of faith, a family man, and a true public servant, I can think of no better person to dedicate his community post office to.

You can watch my full remarks on the House floor in support of this legislation here.

PROVE It Act Passes in the House!

Earlier this year, I cosponsored the Prove It Act, which enables businesses to raise concerns when regulators do not account for the full impact of their regulations by reinforcing the Regulatory Flexibility Act, which was intended to require federal agencies to analyze the impacts of their regulatory actions. Currently, this law is not clearly defined, which has given agencies too much wiggle room and allowed them to operate at their own discretion rather than in the interest of small business. Under this legislation, if regulators fail to comply with this process, the small business will be exempt from the agency's regulations.

I am a firm believe that the government should work for the people of this country, and this legislation gives the people a clear way to hold the government accountable to that responsibility. And I am proud to say that this week, the PROVE IT Act passed on the House floor.

Thanks for Stopping By!

Thank you to Ecolab for sharing how they were able to use the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to bring investments, intellectual property, and research and development back to the U.S. The Ways and Means Committee is working to extend these vital tax cuts for our American businesses.

It was great to talk with the Southwest Minnesota Christian High School on the Capitol steps while they were in town. I hope you all enjoyed your trip!

The Conservative Energy Network came to talk to me about their priorities for the rest of the rest of this Congress and into next year. The Ways and Means Supply Chains Tax Team will be holding hearings and discussions about energy tax credits leading up to next year.

Ensuring Future Generations Learn the Truth about Communism

America is the beacon of freedom and democracy across the globe, but there has been a disturbing trend among young people, who have been increasingly expressing favorable views towards communism. Communism has failed everywhere it has been tried, often with dangerous and even deadly consequences for citizens, and that truth needs to be shared with future generations. Shockingly, instead, we have seen an increase in pushing a line of thinking that demonizes our democratic values. There are currently over 500 K-12 schools in this country that have Confucius Classrooms spreading Chinese Communist Party propaganda and steering students away from the dangerous, violent truths about communism. America did not become the greatest country in the world by abandoning its democratic ideals and commitment to freedom for all, and we need to make sure our young people know the truth.

This week, the House passed the Crucial Communism Teaching Act, which requires the development of a high school curriculum that examines the history of communism and totalitarianism, and how such ideologies go against this nation's founding principles of freedom and democracy.

Finding Real Solutions to the Healthcare Workforce Shortage

I am committed to finding real solutions to the workforce shortage in the healthcare sector, which has had a massive impact on our rural communities. This administration's one-size-fits-none minimum staffing mandate simply will not accomplish this and will force rural care facilities to close. House Republicans are looking for ways to work with stakeholders and increase recruitment and retention of qualified staff. To that end, I introduced the Rebuild America's Health Care Schools Act

Currently, nurses and other allied health professionals who receive their education and training at hospital-based programs can only provide clinical training at their programs’ host hospital. This outdated regulation has not kept up with our modern healthcare system and negatively impacts these students’ ability to provide care to rural and underserved areas in need.  This legislation will allow Nursing and Allied Health students, like nurses and anesthetists, to receive their training at in-health system facilities in our rural area, helping to alleviate staffing strains.
