Dear Friend:

What a week! President Trump has done more in the first five days as president than some accomplish in their entire term. Already, we are seeing criminal illegal aliens being brought to justice, he is ensuring the federal government works FOR the American people, he spoke from a position of strength to the World Economic Forum, and he visited regions of the country that have been devastated by natural disasters.

We also, almost immediately, saw the first Cabinet official, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, be confirmed unanimously in the Senate and take his oath of office. And the Senate held several confirmation hearings this week. I joined my colleagues in a letter calling for swift confirmation of all of President Trump's nominees, and they are staying in session through the weekend to deliver. The Golden Age of America is, indeed, upon us.

The House Passes the Born Alive Act

Babies born after a failed abortion attempt deserve the same standard of care that any baby at the same age would receive. I am appalled that this needs to be dictated into law, but the fact is that Democrat lawmakers all over the country are pushing legislation that allows abortion providers to cast these babies aside rather than treat them as a patient. This week, I stood in support of the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act on the House floor.

During the debate, the lies coming out of the Democrats' mouths were so sickening I couldn't sit by. I had to set the record straight.

I am proud to say that this legislation passed in the House 217-204. It's truly astonishing that 204 people could vote against a bill that simply demands that babies that have survived an attempted abortion are cared for by their doctor with dignity and respect, rather than being treated as medical waste. Those 204 should be ashamed, but I am grateful to be working in a Congress where their voices do not prevail.

Fixing Our Forests

As the devastating wildfires rage on in California, the House passed the Fix Our Forests Act to prevent these kids of tragedies from happening in the future. It provides land managers and firefighters with critical tools to restore forest health and build resiliency in communities near high-risk areas. Local leaders in California knew the region was a high-risk area, yet they did nothing to prepare responsibly for the inevitable. Because of failed management like this, the Fix Our Forests Act is not just sensible, it is necessary.

Why We March

I am proud of all those who marched for life this week. As a lifelong defender of the unborn, I look forward to leading on legislation that empowers women with the knowledge and resources they need to feel confident in choosing life.
