Senator Dole Act Becomes Law
I am so glad to report that, this month, the bipartisan Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act was signed into law.
Veterans and their families make incredible sacrifices to protect this nation’s freedom and our values. In return, our government is committed to supporting and caring for them. The Senator Elizabeth Dole Act, named for a woman who was, of course, married to World War II veteran Senator Bob Dole and who, after her political career, established a foundation dedicated to helping military and veteran caregivers. This bill honors her work by helping ensure our veterans and their families have access to quality and quick services like mental health and community care.
For example, it authorizes mental health grants for caregivers, increases coverage for veterans seeking alternatives to nursing home care, funds at-home services, covers ambulance rides to the VA and provides more options for veterans who need a caretaker, among a long list of other health services.
Congress looks forward to working with the Trump Administration to get this important legislation implemented quickly and effectively. |
