Dear Friend:

On March 4th, President Trump gave his fifth speech to the joint House and Senate and just 43 days into his second term. This was a speech for the American people about what he has already done for them from a dramatic drop in illegal immigration to bringing American hostages home to restoring common sense to the government. It was energetic, moving, and should inspire confidence in people across the country that this Administration, with the support of us in the House and Senate, mean business and are going to deliver.

I was glad to have Minnesota Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson as my guest for this historic speech.

Relocating the Bureau of Land Management

In his last term, President Trump relocated the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) headquarters to Grand Junction, Colorado in order to bring it closer to the communities it serves. Unfortunately, this was done through an Executive Order and President Biden brought it back to D.C. I am pleased to say that I am a cosponsor of the Local Opportunities, Conservation, and American Lands (LOCAL) Act, which would codify the BLM move into law.

It is clear the Washington bureaucracy is bloated. Trump has instructed agencies to submit proposals to relocate offices from D.C. to "less costly parts of the country" by April 14th. Moving agencies out of D.C. and closer to the communities they serve will improve management, efficiency, coordination with local communities, and will bring true diversity to the federal government with representation from all the different kinds of people across our beautiful nation that can't - or just don't want to - move to the Washington swamp to serve their country.

Expanding Opportunities for Biofuel Producers

Expanding opportunities for biofuels into the field of aviation would be incredible progress for our airlines and our farmers. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) could be an excellent alternative fuel source for airplanes that would give our farmers new markets to participate in while also increasing domestic energy production and therefore national security.

I am proud to be an original cosponsor of the Farm to Fly Act to affirm a common definition of SAF for USDA purposes, as widely supported by industry, to enable U.S. crops to most effectively contribute to aviation renewable fuels. It will foster the development of SAF within existing USDA programs, allow for greater collaboration, and ensure USDA’s SAF definitions reflect eligibility for American agricultural crops.

This bill has wide support from outside groups and in the Senate and I look forward to it moving forward this Congress.

Expanding Access to Innovative Hearing Devices

Unlike hearing aids, fully implanted middle ear hearing devices require surgery to replace the function of the middle ear and, once the surgery is completed, the user does not "take off" the device.

The FDA has approved the fully implanted hearing devices as prosthetics, not simple hearing aids, and yet CMS has been classifying them as a hearing aid, and therefore its implantation is not covered by Medicare. These devices could help countless people regain their hearing, and it is time for the government to do its part it making them affordable.

I am proud to introduce the Hearing Device Coverage Clarification Act that will enable more people to gain access to these life-changing products.

We also discussed which programs are important for them to provide clean drinking water and safe wastewater removal. Thanks for the conversation!
