April 6, 2025

Dear Friend:

The Friday jobs report showed us that the economy added 228,000 jobs in March, which is well ahead of the market's expected 140,000. Labor demand is strong for both workers and the number of hours they work. Clearly, the labor market is responding positively to the new economic agenda. The Executive and Legislative branches are working together to revitalize private sector job growth. Small businesses and employers are attracting more investment that will spur even more job creation under the GOP tax and trade policies. Additionally, since the private sector creating jobs instead of the federal government, fewer taxpayer dollars are going towards redundant federal bureaucratic roles.

Make no mistake, my fellow Republicans and I are committed to helping Americans earn a decent living and achieve the American dream. And on the House Ways and Means Committee, we are looking forward to passing one, big, beautiful bill to extend the 2017 tax cuts and provide working families, businesses, and farmers with the certainty that their taxes will not go up at the end of the year.

Real ID Requirements Go Into Effect May 7

The REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005 to set certain standards for states to issue driver's licenses and ID cards that will be accepted by federal agencies. The Department of Homeland Security set May 7,2027 as the date they would begin enforcing this law across the country.

That means that starting on May 7, Minnesotans ag 18 or older will no longer be able to use their standard driver's license or ID card to board domestic flights or enter certain federal facilities.

Please visit the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for more information on REAL ID and how to apply.

SAFETY Act Protects American Food Products

For years, the European Union has created unfair barriers for America’s farmers to access European markets. For example, they abuse geographical indicators as a non-tariff trade barrier, limiting U.S. agriculture export opportunities simply because they rely on using common food names like ‘parmesan’ and ‘bologna’, that have been established for decades. I introduced the Safeguarding American Food and Export Trade Yields (SAFETY) Act with my colleague Congressman Dusty Johnson (R-SD) and Senators John Thune (R-SD) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) to protect these commonly used names and ensure U.S. agriculture products can be sold worldwide. I am proud to stand with my fellow representatives as we hold our trade partners accountable to treat American producers fairly, and this legislation will help restore market access for American agriculture.

The beverage industry employs over 5,000 jobs across Minnesota, and since 1899, the Minnesota Beverage Association has been dedicated to preserving and advancing that industry. I was glad to sit down with them to talk about their priorities for the year.

Calling All High School Artists

I encourage high school students from Minnesota’s Seventh Congressional District to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. This longstanding, non-partisan tradition is a wonderful opportunity for students from across the district to showcase their creativity and hard work. Winners will have their work on display in my Moorhead, Willmar, and Washington, D.C. offices, and the first place winner will have their work hung in the U.S. Capitol, where it will be seen by members of Congress, staff, and thousands of visitors from across the world.
