Dear Friend:

In a Ways and Means Committee hearing, I spoke with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer about the sugar program, expanding export markets, and how important it is for farmers to have a role in trade negotiations.

The last Administration had absolutely no trade agenda. I am glad to hear USTR Ambassador Greer is going to work with us to expand markets for our producers and is coordinating with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to make sure farmers have a seat at the table when it comes to trade.

Congressional Art Competition - Due April 16

I encourage high school students from Minnesota’s Seventh Congressional District to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. This longstanding, non-partisan tradition is a wonderful opportunity for students from across the district to showcase their creativity and hard work. Winners will have their work on display in my Moorhead, Willmar, and Washington, D.C. offices, and the first place winner will have their work hung in the U.S. Capitol, where it will be seen by members of Congress, staff, and thousands of visitors from across the world.

The deadline for submission is April 16th. For more information, please visit my website

SAVE Act Passes in the House

It is critical to our democracy that voters have faith in their elections. Unfortunately, in states like Minnesota, where Governor Walz has done nothing about the non-citizens that are appearing on voter rolls and receiving election ballots, that faith is at risk.

When you go to the store to buy age-restricted items, you have to prove you are of age and not trying to break the law. It is simple and straightforward to ask for the same measures to be taken when voting in a federal election. The House has passed the SAVE Act, which requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote, enforcing existing laws that state only U.S. citizens are allowed to vote.

A REAL ID driver's license or ID card is sufficient form of identification to be in compliance under this law. As a reminder, REAL ID requirements will go into effect on May 7. If you do not have a REAL ID yet, please visit the Minnesota Department of Public Safety for more information and how to apply.

Tax Day TOMORROW

Don't forget to file your taxes by tomorrow, Tuesday, April 15. Whether this is your first time filing, or your filing status has changed, the IRS has resources to help you successfully file your taxes. Please visit their website for assistance.

LeadingAge Leadership Summit

I was honored to speak at the LeadingAge Leadership Summit. It was wonderful to be in a room full of people who are so passionate and so committed, and who truly understand how to best serve our aging population. I am grateful for LeadingAge's support of my legislation to remove a misguided federal nursing staff ratio mandate that could force rural nursing homes like those in the Seventh District to close, and legislation to focus on the education, recruitment, and retention of qualified staff.

Thank you to all of the members who came to D.C. to talk to Congress about the needs of our seniors. You are our eyes and ears on the ground and it is so important for us to hear your stories so we can represent and serve effectively.
