September 22, 2025

Dear Friend:

This week, I joined my Republican colleagues in the House and voted to pass a Continuing Resolution to keep the government open until November 21.

So far, the House has passed funding bills for Defense, Energy and Water, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (MILCONVA). Three funding bills have gone to the Conference Committee, and that's the first time that has happened in six years - before I took office. Additionally, all twelve appropriations bills have passed out of their committees of jurisdiction. We just need a little more time to work with the Senate to pass them. This Continuing Resolution keeps the government funded at current levels while we work on the remaining legislation. Unfortunately, Democrats in the Senate decided to play political games and voted to block this temporary funding bill. I will continue to urge my colleagues in the Senate to pass this simple stopgap measure before funding expires on September 30th.

Democrats Vote Against Honoring Charlie Kirk

Following this summer's tragic attack on lawmakers in Minnesota that resulted in the murder of Melissa Hortman and her husband, the House of Representatives voted UNANIMOUSLY to pass a resolution condemning the attacks and calling for the rejection of political violence.

This week, the House passed a resolution calling for the same thing in the name of Charlie Kirk. And yet, 58 Democrats voted against this resolution, another 38 voted present, and 22 did not vote at all. This resolution was no different from the one I easily voted for earlier this year, and I am so disappointed in my Democrat colleagues that they are not willing to put their political views aside to show the country that we are a body unified against political violence.

Marking Up Legislation to Protect Patients, Seniors, and Taxpayers

This week, the House Ways and Means Committee held a full-day markup for a number of health care, tax administration, and Social Security bills.

These are common-sense, bipartisan bills that help the American people. They are working to provide multi-cancer early detection screenings for seniors, improve hospital care at home, and give seniors quicker access to breakthrough medical products. They protect taxpayers from government abuse. And, they help Americans maximize their Social Security benefits and fight identity theft.

Here is a list of all the legislation we marked up this week:

One of the many reasons I'm honored to be a part of the Ways and Means Committee is because I get so many opportunities to work on legislation that directly improves the lives of American citizens.
