Dear Friend:

Welcome to another addition of my Blue Line Bulletin, where I highlight the work I’m doing to support our men and women in law enforcement. If you like what you read, and think someone else in your life might appreciate it, please forward it on to them!

Law Enforcement Innovate to De-Escalate Act

I'm proud to say I co-sponsored and helped pass out of Ways and Means Committee, the Law Enforcement Innovate to De-Escalate Act , which would update the federal firearms laws to acknowledge technological advancements in less-than-lethal weapons. This legislation ensures that law enforcement departments across the district and country have access to the most effective less-than-lethal equipment. Currently, devices like tasers are classified as firearms, even though they do not carry a substantial risk of serious injury or death. Under this bill, these types of devices would be reclassified, allowing for widely accepted use.

The Moorhead Police Department released an app that allows users to submit tips and access the department website providing a convenient and efficient way for local residents to contact the department. They also rolled out a text tip line for non-emergency uses.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office held an award and swearing-in ceremony in late October. Several Officers were awarded Lifesaving Awards for their responses to medical emergencies and multiple staff members received Letters of Commendation for their work on investigations across the state and country. The office also swore in 6 new deputies, 9 new correctional officers, and 1 new dispatcher. Congratulations to all those that won awards and good luck to the newly sworn-in staff!

A Life Dedicated to Service

Recently, I had the privilege of recognizing Bradley Schenck on the House Floor to honor his life of service. Brad dedicated 16 years of his life to law enforcement, including a decade as a sniper on the Red River Valley SWAT team. His colleagues and community knew him for his courage, integrity, and commitment. May God watch over those he left behind and all our law enforcement officers.
