Dear Friend:

Welcome to another edition of the Small Business Newsletter, where I highlight the work I'm doing to support our Main Streets and small business owners. If you like what you read and think someone else in your life might appreciate it, please forward it on to them!

NFIB Small Business Award

I am incredibly humbled to share that the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) recently honored me with the Small Business Deduction Champion Award. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, I’ve spent the last year fighting to ensure that our local farmers and shop owners aren't hit with a massive tax hike. This award recognizes the work the committee did to provide stability for over 33 million small business owners across the country, including 55,000 right here in our district. I am proud to have earned this award and will keep it in my office as a reminder of my commitment to keeping our Main Streets strong.

Defending Our Small Businesses

I recently visited Mattracks in Karlstad to tour their facility and discuss how federal tax and tariff policies impact their global rubber track production. It is important, with my role on the Ways and Means Committee, to take these stories back to DC.

I also joined the Willmar Area Chamber of Commerce for a roundtable to discuss pro-growth provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill. These conversations are vital for ensuring that rural manufacturers and Main Street businesses have the resources they need to thrive.

Slashing Red Tape & Regulatory Burden

I have been focused on reducing the regulatory burden on your families and businesses. Right now, the average small business pays $14,700 per employee every year just to comply with federal rules. To fight back against these hidden "regulatory taxes," I have recently supported four bills designed to put power back in the hands of local job creators:

The INVEST Act (H.R. 3383)
This bill makes it easier for startups and small businesses to find the funding they need to grow. The INVEST Act modernizes investment laws to expand access to capital for small businesses and strengthen American-owned businesses.

The Small Business Regulatory Reduction Act (H.R. 2965)
I believe the government should work for you, not against you. This bill requires the Small Business Administration (SBA) to ensure that any new rules they create do not increase compliance costs for small businesses. It’s a simple rule: if it makes your life more expensive, the SBA shouldn't be doing it.

The DUMP Red Tape Act (H.R. 4305)
This DUMP Red Tape Act creates a dedicated hotline for small business owners to report overly burdensome or confusing federal regulations directly to the SBA. This gives small business owners a direct voice in Washington, allowing them to say exactly which rules are standing in the way of their success.

The Save Local Business Act (H.R. 4366)
This bill helps clarify "joint employer" rules so that bureaucrats do not treat local franchises and small shops like giant corporations. It protects the franchise business model by clarifying that a person is an employer only if they have actual, direct control over their workers. It provides the clarity and stability that local job creators deserve.
