Dear Friend:

The State of Our Union

Last week’s State of the Union address showed that the America First policies are providing real results. President Trump and Republicans in Congress are focused on the future. We are just getting started on the work required to restore our nation’s greatness and ensure our communities remain a place where families can thrive.

I will continue to fight for Western Minnesota, and together, we will protect our agricultural heritage, defend our values, and ensure the next generation of Minnesotans has every opportunity to live the American Dream.

I was honored to have Dan Glessing, the Minnesota Farm Bureau President, as my guest at the State of the Union address. Dan is a champion of the agriculture industry, and I invited him to ensure Minnesota farmers' voices are heard in DC. I'm proud to stand with Dan and every Minnesotan as we work to keep our rural communities strong.

Home Affordability

I was proud to stand with my colleagues in the House to pass two critical pieces of legislation aimed at lowering costs for your family and getting the government out of your kitchen and laundry room. By supporting the Home Appliance Protection and Affordability Act, I am fighting to restore common sense for energy standards. We are ensuring that future rules for your dishwasher, refrigerator, and dryer are driven by practicality and feasibility, not by an ideological agenda that leaves you with higher bills and fewer choices.

Beyond the appliances in your home, we are also working to protect the very roof over your head. I voted in favor of the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act to stop costly programs that have inflated housing costs. This bill stops the federal government from using your tax dollars to push expensive building codes and electric-only subsidies that limit how you choose to heat and power your home. Whether you prefer gas or electric, that decision should be made by your family. Together, these bills represent a major step toward lowering regulatory costs and keeping the American Dream of homeownership affordable and attainable for everyone.

Supporting Our Veterans and Military

I had the privilege of meeting with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to discuss our ongoing commitment to those who served. I am proud to report that since January 2025, the VA has achieved a 63% reduction in the disability claims backlog, bringing the total below 100,000 for the first time in years. To build on this progress, I supported the Clear Communication for Veterans Claims Act, which simplifies the notices veterans receive about their benefits. I am also prioritizing mental health care, toxic exposure recognition, and survivor benefits to ensure our heroes receive the care they earned.

I also met with the Fargo-Moorhead-West-Fargo Chamber of Commerce and the Fargo-Moorhead National Guard to ensure our servicemembers are supported. The National Guard contributes $130 million in economic impact to the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo area, and our district is home to more Guard facilities than any other in Minnesota. In the latest Defense Appropriations and NDAA, we secured a pay raise for servicemembers. I will continue to advocate for support and funding for our military.

Strengthening Rural Infrastructure

Last week, I met with Kandiyohi County officials to discuss local priorities, including highway enhancements and water tower upgrades. I remain focused on ensuring that small towns receive their fair share of federal water and wastewater grants, rather than seeing those funds dominated by larger cities.

To keep energy costs affordable and projects on schedule, I am fighting to cut through red tape alongside the Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association (MMUA) and Missouri River Energy Services (MRES). I recently voted for the SPEED Act and the PERMIT Act to streamline environmental reviews for energy projects.
