Dear Friend:

I am proud to share that new data from the U.S. Treasury Department confirms the Working Families Tax Cuts (WFTC) are delivering massive wins across Western Minnesota and the nation.

Current reports show that nearly 45% of all tax returns have claimed at least one of these new tax relief priorities. Whether it’s keeping more of your paycheck or seeing a larger refund at the end of the year, the WFTC policies are putting power and money back into your hands.

Tax Relief by the Numbers

  • Over 15.5 million returns have claimed No Tax on Overtime.
  • Over 9.2 million returns have claimed No Tax on Social Security.
  • Over 3.5 million returns have claimed No Tax on Tips.
  • Over 690,000 returns have claimed No Tax on Auto Loan Interest.
  • The average tax refund is up over 10%, totaling over $3,700.

Here is how the WFTC could break down for your household:

Benefit Impact on Your Pocketbook
No Tax on Overtime Average $1,400 tax cut
No Tax on Tips Average $1,300 tax cut
Standard Deduction Increased to $31,500 per family
Child Tax Credit Expanded to $2,200
Social Security $12,000 deduction for married seniors

Opening New Markets for Minnesota Potatoes

I joined a bipartisan group of colleagues, led by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo and Ranking Member Ron Wyden, in a letter to President Trump urging him to prioritize U.S. potato exports to Japan.

For years, Japan has maintained restrictions on U.S. potatoes. Breaking down these trade barriers would be a game-changer for our agricultural community, and opening the Japanese market is estimated to generate $150 million in new American exports every year.

Minnesota is one of the top potato-producing states, and our growers deserve a level playing field. I will continue to push the administration to finalize this long-delayed market access and support the hardworking families who keep our food supply secure.

Visiting Mattracks in Karlstad

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Mattracks headquarters in Karlstad for a tour of their manufacturing facilities and a deep-dive discussion on the policies impacting American production.

Mattracks is a true Minnesota success story. Starting from a drawing by the founder’s 11-year-old son, they have now grown into a global leader in rubber track conversion systems. Their products are sold on every continent and used in over 100 countries, proving that Minnesota innovation can compete on the world stage.

During the tour with CEO and Founder Glen Brazier, we discussed how the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) is providing the certainty our local businesses need to grow. By making 100% bonus depreciation and immediate R&D expensing permanent, we are ensuring that manufacturers like Mattracks can continue to invest in new machinery and cutting-edge technology right here at home.

It is inspiring to see a company in Karlstad leading its industry globally. I will continue to fight for policies that keep Minnesota-made products moving across the world.

Congressional Art Challenge

I encourage high school students from Minnesota’s Seventh Congressional District to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. This longstanding, non-partisan tradition is a wonderful opportunity for students from across the district to showcase their creativity and hard work. Winners will have their work on display in my Moorhead, Willmar, and Washington, D.C. offices, and the first-place winner will have their work hung in the U.S. Capitol, where it will be seen by members of Congress, staff, and thousands of visitors from across the world.

The submission deadline is 5 p.m. CT on Monday, April 20, 2026. For more information, please visit my website.
