Dear Friend:

Investing in Our Infrastructure and Workforce

Last week, I met with Vistal and Moore Engineering to discuss the Promotion and Expansion of Private Employee Ownership Act. We focused on how expanding employee ownership plans can strengthen job stability and provide better retirement options for workers in our district. I also provided an update on the federal funding requests I submitted for fiscal year 2027 to support critical water and wastewater infrastructure improvements in Akeley and Red Lake Falls.

I also sat down with the Red River Watershed Management Board in Ada for a roundtable on local flood risk reduction. We reviewed my recent requests for the Klondike, Lower Wild Rice River, and Redpath projects, all of which are essential for protecting our communities and agricultural land. Additionally, we discussed our ongoing work with the Army Corps of Engineers to finally reach a conclusion on the 18-year-long Oslo flooding study.

It is crucial that our small towns remain safe, functional, and competitive. I will continue to fight for the federal funding and legislative support our district deserves to protect rural communities and foster economic growth for generations to come.

Great American Agriculture Celebration

It was a privilege to attend the Great American Agriculture Celebration at the White House last week. During the event, I was honored to be recognized by President Trump as an “agricultural warrior,” a title I wear with pride on behalf of the producers who fuel and feed our nation.

During the celebration, the President echoed a message that I have been championing in Congress: it is time to pass the Farm Bill and permanent, year-round E15. Providing consistent access to clean, home-grown fuel is not only a victory for energy independence but a vital step toward keeping our rural economies moving forward.

Thanks for Visiting!

I met with representatives from the Minnesota Rural Education Association (MREA) to address the challenges facing rural school districts, including teacher shortages, transportation hurdles, and limited high-speed internet access. We discussed the importance of the Rural Education Achievement Program (REAP) in providing flexible federal funding for small districts.

I had the opportunity to meet with Americans for Prosperity MN (AFP) to discuss reducing federal barriers to energy production and infrastructure through permitting reform. The discussion focused on support for The SPEED Act, which would streamline the environmental review process and reduce regulatory red tape. We also discussed free-market ways to lower healthcare costs.

It was a pleasure to speak with students from the Close Up program. I enjoyed the opportunity to walk them through how our office functions daily to serve the people of Western Minnesota. We discussed the day-to-day responsibilities of a Member of Congress, from committee markups to constituent advocacy. Engaging with the next generation is one of the most rewarding parts of this job, and I was impressed by their thoughtful questions about the legislative process and how they can make their own voices heard in our nation's capital.

Congressional Art Competition

Image

I encourage high school students from Minnesota’s Seventh Congressional District to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. This longstanding, non-partisan tradition is a wonderful opportunity for students from across the district to showcase their creativity and hard work. Winners will have their work on display in my Moorhead, Willmar, and Washington, D.C. offices, and the first-place winner will have their work hung in the U.S. Capitol, where it will be seen by members of Congress, staff, and thousands of visitors from across the world.

The submission deadline is 5 p.m. CT on Monday, April 20, 2026. For more information, please visit my website
