National Small Business Week

Last week, we celebrated the small businesses that keep America moving and honored the builders, workers, and family businesses that make our country strong.

This Congress, House Republicans have supported small businesses time and time again, we:

  • Restored 100 percent immediate expensing and R&D expensing so businesses can deduct the cost of new equipment and property the same year they buy it.
  •  Passed H.R. 2965, the Small Business Regulatory Reduction Act of 2025, which requires SBA regulatory changes to avoid increasing compliance costs on small businesses.
  • Passed H.R. 4305, the DUMP Red Tape Act, to create a Red Tape Hotline where small businesses can report burdensome federal rules.

Small Business Tax Cut Act

I am proud to cosponsor the Small Business Tax Cut Act, which raises the section 199A deduction to 23 percent. By increasing the deduction, this bill directly supports small businesses and family farms in Western Minnesota by helping them secure the funds they need to hire more workers, increase wages, and upgrade their equipment. The Small Business Tax Cut helps keep our rural economies strong, so local employers can put their earnings back into their businesses and communities.

Working Families Tax Cuts

This tax filing season, small businesses saw the results of the Working Families Tax Cuts (WFTC). The WFTC meant that over 26 million small businesses were protected from the doubling of the top tax rate, employees took home more pay due to no tax on tips and overtime, and more than 1 million new Main Street jobs were created.

These benefits led small business confidence to reach its highest level since 2017, and 42% of small businesses plan to raise wages and benefits with their tax savings.
