April 29, 2026

Dear Friend:

It was a busy week in Washington as we continue to work on the 2026 Farm Bill. I also had the opportunity to sit down with several groups to discuss how we can better support our workforce and protect our rural economy. On the House floor, Republicans passed a slate of bills focused on unleashing American energy, strengthening rural healthcare, and cutting red tape.

Unleashing American Energy

Reducing energy prices is vital for American households, and last week, House Republicans, with my support, passed legislation to lower costs for families.

  • The HEATS Act: This bill removes repetitive permitting requirements for geothermal projects on non-federal lands. By cutting this red tape, we can develop domestic energy faster and lower costs for families.
  • Hydropower Construction: I voted to extend construction deadlines for hydropower projects. Many of these projects were delayed by COVID-era supply chain issues, and this bill ensures they stay on track to provide reliable, affordable power.
  • Reliable Federal Infrastructure Act: This legislation repeals mandates that forced federal buildings to phase out fossil fuel energy. We should be focused on efficient, reliable energy sources, not ideological mandates that drive up costs for taxpayers.

Investing in Rural Communities

House Republicans also passed several measures this week to support rural communities across Western Minnesota.

  • Expediting Federal Broadband Deployment: Works to close the digital divide by establishing an interagency task force to speed up the review process for broadband facilities.
  • Improving Care in Rural America Reauthorization Act: I was proud to support the reauthorization of critical grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration. This funding helps our local healthcare providers expand services, develop health networks, and improve the quality of care.
  • Expressing Support for Rural Communities: My colleagues and I passed a resolution recognizing rural Americans as the primary stewards of our environment and the providers of our nation’s food and energy.

Thanks for Visiting!

I had a productive conversation with the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT). We discussed the need for workforce development and the success of our local apprenticeship programs. It was great to hear their feedback on my support for the Multi-employer Plan Relief Act and the Supporting Apprenticeship Colleges Act, both of which are essential for protecting workers' futures and training the next generation of skilled professionals. Image

I also met with the North American Deer Farmers Association to discuss their priorities, specifically regarding the threat of Chronic Wasting Disease. We must ensure that we are utilizing every tool to protect our herds and support the families who make their living in this industry.

It was great to sit down with Land O' Lakes to discuss our shared priorities for the 2026 Farm Bill. We focused on the importance of E-15, ensuring our farmers receive the economic assistance they need, and protecting Minnesota producers in ongoing USMCA trade negotiations. I am committed to making sure our dairy and agricultural sectors have the certainty they need to compete globally.
