Dear Friend:

It has been a busy stretch in the District and in Washington, focusing on legislation that drives our local economy and the safety of our communities. In DC, House Republicans passed the first Farm Bill in eight years and passed legislation to fund DHS and end the longest government shutdown in history. In Minnesota, I had the opportunity to hear from producers and local manufacturers about the need for E15 and 45Z implementation, childcare center employees about staffing shortages, and members of the Economic Development Authority about housing grant opportunities.

Unleashing American Energy

It was a productive week meeting with leaders in our local energy industry to discuss the vital role biofuels play in our economy and energy security. During a tour of Ag Processing Inc., we discussed the importance of clear implementation of the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Tax Credit. It is crucial that final guidance for these credits prioritize our feedstocks and provide certainty for our farmers.

I also visited Bushmills Ethanol to discuss the push for year-round E15 sales. While the Administration has issued a temporary summer waiver, I am continuing to advocate for a permanent legislative solution. Additionally, I am working closely with groups like Fueling Minnesota to address delays in USDA infrastructure funding, ensuring our local retailers have the resources they need to offer higher biofuel blends at the pump.

Farm Bill Passage

House Republicans focused on a fundamental truth: food security is national security. I was proud to join my colleagues in passing the Farm, Food, and National Security Act to ensure America’s farmers and ranchers can continue to feed our families, sustain our rural communities, and keep our country strong.

This bill included my legislation, the Investing in Rural America Act, to allow Farm Credit institutions to help fund essential buildings in rural communities like childcare centers, hospitals, and senior care facilities.

It also included a provision to provide Prop 12 relief for over 60,000 pork producers across the country. This provision will prevent overregulation by prohibiting state and local governments from interfering with livestock production in other states.

Childcare & Education

Childcare is essential to a strong workforce, yet many providers are struggling with severe staffing shortages and rising operating costs. I had a conversation with the team at Little Eagles Childcare about these challenges. To address this, I have signed onto a letter requesting robust funding for the Child Care and Development Block Grant and the Head Start Program for the upcoming fiscal year. I also support the Child Care Choices Act, which would expand parental choice by opening the door for more home-based and faith-based childcare options.

I also had the opportunity to visit the Dawson-Boyd Blackjack Babies & Little Jacks Child Care facility, which was created to address the childcare shortage in Dawson and can now support nearly 100 kids, from infants to school-aged children. Western Minnesota families deserve accessible, high-quality care that fits their needs and values.

While at the Dawson-Boyd School, I learned more about their recent investments in agribusiness classes and saw a hands-on presentation on how students are learning about precision agriculture.
