Dear Friend:

Putting American Farmers First

Image

Last week, I voted to pass the Fiscal Year 2027 Agriculture Appropriations bill. This legislation is a win for farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. It strengthens domestic production, improves tracking of foreign-owned farmland, and pushes back on foreign influence in American agriculture.

House Republicans are funding the priorities that matter: food safety, animal and crop health, rural development, and nutrition programs, while cutting costly climate programs and wasteful red tape.

This House-passed bill also contained Community Project Funding for 3 projects in the district, including funding for a dam replacement in Gaylord and funding for waste & water upgrades in Red Lake Falls and Akeley.

A Few Highlights of the Bill:

  • Provides $3.81 billion for rural development, including $40 million to expand rural broadband.
  • Adds $10.8 million to support frontline state meat and poultry inspectors and boosts funding for crop and animal health.
  • Increases funding by $19 million for Farm Service Agency (FSA) staff to support the One Farmer, One File initiative

Stopping Child Care Scams

House Republicans, including myself, voted to pass the Stop Child Care Scams Act. This bill will force accountability when states repeatedly fail to fix fraud or other serious program violations. It will also create mandatory penalties by requiring the Department of Health and Human Services to withhold federal funds from noncompliant states.

As Minnesotans, we have seen firsthand what happens when fraud is allowed to run rampant through social programs. This legislation is a step in the right direction to ensure that your taxpayer dollars go to children and families in need, rather than being siphoned off by fraudsters.

I want to hear from you:

Do you believe states should be held accountable for mishandling federal funding meant for children and families?

American Agri-Women

Image

I was honored to receive the American Agri-Women (AAW) 2026 Champion of Agriculture Award. Since 2010, this bipartisan award has been given annually to recognize members of Congress who lead the fight for our nation's farmers and promote rural ways of life. Women are a key part of our agricultural communities, and the tireless advocacy of AAW ensures that the voices of family farms, ranches, and agribusinesses are heard in DC. Receiving this recognition only strengthens my determination to keep fighting for our rural communities.

Thanks for Visiting!

It was great to meet with high school students from the district who traveled to Washington this week as part of the Foundation for Rural Service Youth Tour. We talked about public service, the legislative process, and a typical week as a Member of Congress. I truly enjoyed their insightful questions. It's always a highlight to see the next generation of Western Minnesota be so civically engaged.
