June 16, 2026

Dear Friend:

On June 14, 2025, a tragic attack took the lives of Melissa and Mark Hortman. A year later, this loss is still felt across our state.

This tragedy is a reminder that political violence has no place in our society. No matter how deep our political differences, violence can never be tolerated or justified.

Securing America's Borders

Last week, Republicans passed the Secure America Act to fund ICE and Border Patrol and ensure our national security remains strong for years to come.

This bill funds the people who fight cartels, terrorists, traffickers, child predators, and illegal aliens, and it funds CBP and ICE through 2029, so our law enforcement agents are no longer a bargaining chip for Democrats.

It also secures funding to target fentanyl at the border to stop the flow of drugs into our communities, provides $108.5 million for child exploitation investigations, and provides training for federal, state, and local law enforcement to protect our children.

Minnesota State Officials Exposed

Image

In a new report from the House Oversight Committee, Tim Walz and Keith Ellison were exposed for their role in the rampant fraud across Minnesota's social programs. The report reveals that both state officials were aware of the widespread fraud, yet failed to address it. They even went so far as to retaliate against state employees who raised concerns.

Vice President Vance has referred both officials to the Department of Justice's Fraud Division for a criminal investigation. If Walz and Ellison facilitated fraud, lied under oath about what they knew, or intimidated whistleblowers, they need to face the consequences.

Additionally, due to this report, I joined my fellow Minnesota GOP members in sending a letter to both officials calling for their resignations. I believe if Walz & Ellison have any respect left for the Minnesotans they betrayed, they will resign immediately.

Fighting Fraud In DC

House Republicans are working to ensure a fraud scandal like the one in Minnesota does not happen again. We are taking action to build a government that can catch fraud in real time. Recently, I voted yes on five bills to enforce stronger oversight and protect your hard-earned dollars:

The TRUE Accountability Act: Requires federal agencies to implement strict internal controls to prevent improper payments and mitigate fraud risks, specifically during federal emergencies, before emergency funds are deployed.

H.R. 8428 – Federal Fraud Prevention Workforce Training Act: Establishes a government-wide training program to ensure federal employees can identify fraud risks and properly use accountability tools.

H.R. 7892 – No Aid for Ghost Students Act: Scammers have been using stolen identities to submit fraudulent FAFSA applications, stealing financial aid meant for real students. This bill requires the Secretary of Education to implement identity fraud detection systems to verify student identities and block these bad actors.

H.R. 8312 – Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act: Creates a permanent, dedicated fraud-fighting inspector general inside the Treasury Department that can access the data to catch improper payments across all federal agencies.

H.R. 8464 – Stopping Fraudulent Payments Act: If a payment looks suspicious or gets flagged by the Treasury's "Do Not Pay" system, this bill mandates that the payment is frozen until corrective action is taken.

All five of these common-sense bills successfully passed the House. You deserve a government that respects your hard work and safeguards your tax dollars.

Students Visitors!

Image

It was a pleasure to welcome a group of students from Tracy Area High School to DC as part of the Close Up Foundation. I was so impressed by their questions about how Congress works and their engagement with our history and the legislative process.

I also had the chance to meet with FFA students visiting the Capitol from chapters across Minnesota. As a representative for one of the most productive agricultural districts in the country, I am incredibly proud of these hardworking young men and women. Their dedication to leadership, personal growth, and the future of American agriculture is inspiring, and it was wonderful to hear firsthand about their passion for keeping our state’s farming strong.
