Dear Friend:

Last week was a busy week around the district, from hosting a rural law enforcement roundtable with Western Minnesota Police Chiefs, Sheriffs, and US Attorney Daniel Rosen to meeting with local business owners in Morris and checking in with Traverse Electric Co-Op. I always appreciate hearing directly from constituents.

Rural Law Enforcement Roundtable

Our local law enforcement agents work hard to keep Western Minnesota communities safe. To ensure they have the resources and backing they need, I hosted a rural law enforcement roundtable in Alexandria, bringing together US Attorney Daniel Rosen, Police Chiefs, and Sheriffs from across the district.

We discussed the need for federal agencies to be accessible to our local officers on the ground. I will continue to advocate for strong partnerships between federal and local law enforcement to keep our neighborhoods secure.

Expanding Housing & Tackling Workforce Challenges

Economic growth in Western Minnesota depends on the strength of our local businesses and the well-being of the families who live here. I had the opportunity to sit down with leaders from Superior Industries, Bonanza Bean, Westmor, and Riverview Dairy to discuss two issues facing our communities: expanding local housing options and tackling ongoing workforce challenges.

When our local employers look to grow, they need a robust workforce, and that workforce needs affordable places to live.

To directly address these concerns, I am proud to share that I supported the 21st Century Road to Housing Act and am a cosponsor of the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act. These pieces of legislation focus on cutting through red tape to pave the way for faster homebuilding and more affordable housing options. By streamlining the process, we can help ensure that families across Western Minnesota have access to the homes they need, while helping our local employers attract and retain the talent that keeps our communities strong.

Traverse Electric Co-Op

I had a great meeting with the leadership team at Traverse Electric Co-Op in Wheaton to discuss cutting regulatory red tape, strengthening our energy infrastructure, and ensuring our rural communities continue to have access to reliable, affordable power.

Rural electric cooperatives face the challenge of aging systems that are vulnerable to severe weather. To ensure our energy co-ops have the tools they need to modernize and respond to emergencies, I am a proud cosponsor of the Fixing Emergency Management for Americans (FEMA) Act. This bipartisan bill speeds up funding delivery so our co-ops and local communities can rebuild quickly if severe weather strikes.

We also discussed Rural Utilities Service (RUS) loans, which help finance critical grid upgrades. To help fund the demand for these upgrades, I supported the House-passed 2027 Agriculture Appropriations bill, which boosts RUS loan capacity and increases investments in rural infrastructure.
