Supporting Our Main Streets

Recently, the House passed two bipartisan bills to protect and modernize American small businesses. Small businesses drive our local economies and create jobs right in our communities, and it is vital that federal programs operate with accountability and give entrepreneurs the tools they need to succeed. 

Here is a breakdown of the legislation I voted to support:

HR 7401 - Small Business Lending Fraud Prevention Act
This bill strengthens oversight within the Small Business Administration's (SBA) lending programs. It requires any SBA employee involved in reviewing, approving, or overseeing loans to formally certify that they do not have a conflict of interest with the loans they handle. By creating a strict certification process and requiring employees to disclose potential conflicts, this legislation reinforces ethics requirements and helps eliminate fraud before it hurts legitimate borrowers. 

HR 915 - Small Business Technological Act
This bill allows small businesses to use specific SBA funds to purchase business software, cloud computing services, and modern digital tools. To stay competitive in today's economy, business owners need access to modern technology, and this allows business owners to use SBA-backed loans for these essential, everyday operational tools.  

I will continue to support policies that cut red tape and give our local businesses the security and resources they deserve.

Protecting Our Seniors

Financial exploitation is a growing problem in America, particularly for our seniors. It is costing older Americans more than $28 billion annually, and approximately one in five people over the age of 65 has fallen victim to these scams.

This kind of criminal deception is entirely inexcusable, and House Republicans are committed to protecting our seniors from harm. The House passed the Financial Exploitation Prevention Act to stop financial fraud and scams that target older Americans. This legislation provides the financial industry with more effective tools to better identify, delay, and prevent suspected exploitation against seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Bad actors looking to take advantage of our seniors and vulnerable individuals have gotten away with their schemes for too long. We are putting an end to it. These commonsense measures will provide vital protections to keep our seniors safe from scams.

Congratulations to Our Art Competition Winner

I got to welcome our first-place Congressional Art Competition winner, Kira, to Washington, D.C., for the Art Competition Celebration!

Kira's winning piece, "Geese in Harmony," is now officially hanging in the U.S. Capitol. It will stay up for the next year, where millions of visitors and Members of Congress will walk by and see it every day.

It was great meeting with Kira and celebrating her hard work. Congratulations again, and thank you for representing Minnesota's Seventh District so well!

I recently had a meeting with the Associated Builders and Contractors of Minnesota. We discussed the need for legislation that supports our construction industry and protects small businesses, like the Prove It Act. As a proud cosponsor of this bill, I am working to ensure federal agencies thoroughly evaluate the impact of regulations on our local builders and small business owners. 

It was a pleasure to sit down with a talented group of women from Minnesota Excellence in Public Service (MEPS) to discuss the role women play in public service and grassroots leadership. During our conversation, I shared updates on my top priorities in Congress, including my successful fight to secure year-round E15 fuel and my work to protect life through the MOMS Act and the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act. Empowering the next generation of leadership is essential, and I am proud of the work MEPS does to equip women across Minnesota with the skills and confidence to lead.

I always appreciate catching up with the Minnesota Propane Association to discuss energy needs across our state. We had a great discussion regarding funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which helps families manage winter heating costs. We also discussed the Energy Choice Act, a bill I am proud to cosponsor that protects consumer freedom by stopping state and local governments from banning or limiting access to reliable energy sources like propane.
