FRAUD Act

I recently joined the Minnesota Congressional Republicans in introducing the Federal Responsibility and Accountability for Unchecked Dereliction (FRAUD) Act to ensure state officials are held accountable when they turn a blind eye to corruption.

This legislation follows a House Oversight Committee report revealing that high-level Minnesota officials, including Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison, knew about rampant fraud involving federal funds as early as 2019 and repeatedly failed to act. The scale of fraud we’ve seen in our state is flat-out unacceptable.

To ensure this does not happen again, the FRAUD Act will:

• Require state leaders to report credible federal fund fraud warnings to the FBI within 180 days.
• Impose criminal penalties on officials who knowingly hide fraud or obstruct investigations.
• Ban convicted officials from ever overseeing federal dollars again.

You work hard for your money, and you deserve a government that protects it.

Around the District

During my visit to Thief River Falls, I had the opportunity to focus on both the infrastructure and the local businesses that keep our communities strong. I sat down with Mayor Lorenson and city staff to discuss their current water and wastewater needs, reinforcing my commitment to working with local leaders to deliver reliable, long-term solutions. I also toured the Arctic Cat facility to discuss how we can better support Minnesota manufacturers, with a focus on reducing regulatory red tape, navigating tariff impacts, and improving our overall business climate so local employers can continue to grow.

In Crookston, I held an Agriculture Advisory Committee roundtable to hear directly from our local producers about the challenges they are facing and how I can continue to use my positions on the Ways & Means and Rules Committees to support our ag industry. I also visited the team at 4H2 to see firsthand their innovative work on renewable fuels and electricity generation. Both conversations highlighted the need to keep government bureaucracy out of the way so local innovation can drive our Main Streets and support our rural communities.

Thank you to Mayor Olstad, Chamber leadership, and our local business leaders for the productive discussion in East Grand Forks. We focused on the role the Chamber plays in coordinating cross-border business interests, as well as our priorities for infrastructure improvements, education funding, and economic development.

Following the tornado at Floyd Lake, I traveled to the area to see the damage and meet with those leading the recovery efforts. I want to extend my thanks to Sheriff Glander, the Becker County Sheriff's Office, the Becker County Commissioners, and the American Red Cross for guiding me around the area. It is a miracle that no lives were lost, and I am incredibly proud of our local first responders and the dedicated community volunteers who rallied to support their neighbors. My office stands ready to assist the community as we rebuild and recover together.

Securing Our Ag Workforce

I am proud to have joined House Agriculture Committee Chairman GT Thompson on the Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act to update the H-2A agricultural worker program and deliver much-needed labor flexibility to our local farmers.

Our producers should not have to fight through mountains of federal red tape just to feed and fuel our country. Unfortunately, rigid and outdated H-2A program requirements have ignored the realities of modern farming, leaving our agricultural economy without a stable workforce. This producer-backed bill helps our farmers by cutting compliance costs and establishing a predictable framework so our agricultural communities can thrive.

The Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act will:

• Extend the H-2A temporary worker definition to 350 days, allowing our dairy, poultry, and specialty crop operations to finally qualify for the program.
• Establish a single, shared online application portal across the Departments of Labor, Homeland Security, and State to streamline the process.
• Cap annual wage changes, simplify housing inspections, and lower compliance burdens to save farmers money.
