Welcome to another edition of the Second Amendment Update. If you like what you read and think someone else in your life might appreciate it, please forward it on to them!

Protecting Local Gun Shops

I am proud to co-sponsor H.R. 3770, the FIREARM Act, to protect local gun shops and ensure federal agencies focus on violent crime, not paperwork errors.

Under the Biden administration, federal agencies were used against law-abiding gun dealers through a hostile "Zero Tolerance" policy. Instead of helping local retailers correct honest administrative typos, the Biden ATF used minor paperwork errors as an excuse to shut gun shops down, driving license revocations to a 20-year high and forcing hundreds of small business owners out of work.

Thankfully, common-sense leadership has returned to Washington. Following an executive action from President Trump, the ATF officially stopped the Biden-era Zero Tolerance policy and restored an approach that supports small businesses. The FIREARM Act will permanently codify these protections into law, ensuring future anti-gun administrations can never again weaponize federal agencies against our local gun retailers.

Opposing Unfair Taxes

Anti-gun state legislators are trying to find ways to undermine your Second Amendment rights, but since they can’t ban guns, they are trying to impose taxes that would drastically raise prices. By implementing “sin taxes” on guns, ammo, and reloading parts, they are driving up prices so gun owners can’t afford to protect themselves or go to the shooting range.

Taxing a constitutional right to make it unaffordable is wrong and should be illegal. That’s why I am co-sponsoring H.R. 2442, the Freedom from Unfair Gun Taxes Act.

This legislation stops predatory taxes and bans state and local governments from imposing special excise taxes on firearms, ammunition, and parts.

Protecting Your Privacy

Image

I am proud to have voted to protect your Second Amendment rights! Recently, House Republicans passed H.R. 1181, the Protecting Privacy in Purchases Act, to protect law-abiding gun owners and stop banks from creating a backdoor registry by tracking your legal firearm and ammunition purchases!

Keeping Firearm Operations Running

I am also cosponsoring H.R. 5874, the Firearm Access During Shutdowns Act, to keep essential firearm-related operations open during federal funding lapses.

During previous government shutdowns, federal bureaucrats have decided which firearm functions stay open. While background checks through the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) usually remain open, other offices, like export and import licensing agencies, close.

The bill requires federal agencies to continue processing firearm applications and licenses even when the government is closed.
