Zinke visits Glacier County

Congressman Ryan Zinke visited Glacier County last week to check in on the status of funding he secured for the county as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations process. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, Congressman Zinke nominates up to 15 local projects each year for funding, focusing on county-level infrastructure, public safety, and community development.

In FY2024, Glacier County received funding for three projects totaling over $20.9 million:

$20 million for the Blackfeet Nation Tribal Youth Center in Browning,

$500,000 for the Glacier County 911 Center and radio equipment for law enforcement

$410,000 for Glacier County patrol vehicles and detainee safety enhancements.

"This is exactly why I asked to serve on Appropriations, to make sure Montana's hard earned tax dollars come back home to help our towns and counties," said Zinke. "The best ideas come from the folks on the ground. That's our sheriffs, county commissioners, and tribal leaders who know what their communities need. When they bring me a good project like the youth center in Browning or the law enforcement upgrades for the county sheriff's office, I work hard to get it funded. I'm proud to see that effort paying off with real results here in Glacier County."

No Budget, No Pay! - Zinke signs on to Constitutional Amendment to Stop Congressional Pay During Shutdowns

ImageThis week, Congressman Ryan Zinke announced his co-sponsorship of Congressman Ralph Norman’s (SC-05) constitutional amendment that would prohibit Members of Congress from receiving pay during a government shutdown, with no back pay.

Unlike other federal workers, during a shutdown Members of Congress continue to receive pay due to Article I, Section 6 of the Constitution, which states that “The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States.” This language does not specify that pay is contingent on the government being funded.

Congressman Norman’s proposed amendment reads: “A Representative or Senator may not receive compensation with respect to any period during which a Government shutdown is in effect. For purposes of this article, a Government shutdown shall be considered to be in effect if there is a lapse in appropriations for any Federal agency or department as a result of a failure to enact a regular appropriations bill or continuing resolution.”

“America First means American Beef First”

This week, Congressman Ryan Zinke announced his co-sponsorship of Congresswoman Hageman’s (WY) “H.R. 5818 Country of Origin Labeling Enforcement Act of 2025” (COOL Enforcement Act). The legislation would amend the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946 to clarify that beef marketed as “Product of the USA” must be both raised and processed in the United States, not simply packaged or minimally processed in the U.S. after importation.

“America first means American beef first, and to me that means Montana beef first,” Zinke said. “Americans are becoming more aware of where their food is grown, raised, and produced, and Montana has a great reputation for quality and healthy food. Shoppers should be 100% confident at the point of purchase that what they are getting is what they meant to buy. This legislation ensures transparency at the meat counter and defends the integrity of Montana and U.S. ranching. If it’s marketed as American beef, it should be born, raised, and processed here at home.”

The COOL Enforcement Act arrives at a critical moment as American beef producers face competition from imported beef that may not meet the same production, processing, or oversight standards. Congressman Zinke’s backing of this legislation continues his track record of strong support of Montana’s ranching community.
