Dear Friend:

Welcome back to the Downing Dispatch! Keep reading to learn more about what was happening in Washington this week and some exciting news about my committee assignments.

Washington Watch

This week, I’ve been traveling across Montana meeting with local leaders, touring small businesses, and hearing directly from Montanans about the issues impacting their communities. From supporting Main Street businesses during Small Business Week to discussing public lands, infrastructure, and economic growth, it’s always valuable to spend time back home listening and learning from the people I represent.

This week, I met with the Gardiner Chamber of Commerce to discuss the opportunities and challenges of being a gateway community built around tourism. Gardiner plays a vital role in Montana’s economy, and I was eager to hear directly from local leaders.
I visited the Billings Industrial Revitalization District this week, and saw firsthand how redevelopment and reinvestment are bringing new life to downtown Billings. Supporting local businesses and manufacturers is key to long-term economic growth in Montana.

I also visited Yellowstone Dig It Days in Billings! A great event that gives families hands-on experience with construction and emergency equipment while highlighting the importance of digging safety and careers in the skilled trades. Montana’s workforce is our future, and it’s great to see young people getting excited about these opportunities.

I introduced the Accelerating Forest Management Act, legislation to codify the Bureau of Land Management’s proposed NEPA categorical exclusion for timber salvage projects. This commonsense bill would help speed up active forest management, reduce wildfire risk, and support Montana’s rural economies and timber communities.

It was an honor to join fellow Montanans for the National Day of Prayer yesterday. Moments like these are a reminder of the strength that faith, prayer, and gratitude bring to our families, our communities, and our nation.
