Dear Friend:

Welcome back to the Downing Dispatch! Keep reading to learn more about what was happening in Washington this week and some exciting news about my committee assignments.

Washington Watch

Today, I spoke on the House floor to celebrate the passage of the Farm Bill and urged the Senate to get this critical legislation across the finish line. Montana farmers and ranchers feed the world, strengthen our economy, and power rural communities. It’s time to deliver the certainty and support they deserve.

This week on the Hill, I introduced the PARTNERS Act to help states work alongside federal regulators to enforce existing Medicare Advantage standards. This bill strengthens accountability and MA consumer protection.

I talked about the need to extend authorization for the Fort Peck Reservation Rural Water System and the importance of ongoing water infrastructure projects in northeastern Montana. Access to reliable water is crucial for tribal communities, rural families, agriculture, and sustainable economic development.

During the Natural Resources Committee meeting, I asked Secretary Burgum about the future of American coal, our efforts to reclaim energy leadership, and the importance of safeguarding well-paying mining jobs in Montana. Coal continues to be essential for the energy security, economic competitiveness, and reliability of our power grid in the United States.

I also introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives to authorize construction of the Dry-Redwater rural water system, helping deliver clean and reliable water to communities across eastern Montana. U.S. Senators Steve Daines and Tim Sheehy introduced companion legislation in the U.S. Senate.

Had a great time joining fellow Members of Congress at the Congressional Clays Competition hosted by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, and proud to come away with the skeet shoot win.

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus plays an important role in protecting America’s outdoor traditions, advancing conservation efforts, expanding public land access, and supporting the hunters, anglers, and sportsmen who help steward our natural resources.

Events like this bring lawmakers together around a shared mission: preserving the outdoor heritage and conservation values that are so important to Montana and communities across the country.

I had great to visit Rep. Emmer's Pizza for Police event. During Police Week, we honor our brave law enforcement and their dedication to keeping us safe. Let’s take a moment to appreciate their service and sacrifice.

Thank a law enforcement officer this week!
