Dear Friend:

Welcome back to the Downing Dispatch! Keep reading to learn more about what was happening in Washington this week and some exciting news about my committee assignments.

Washington Watch

In this week's Natural Resources Committee, I emphasized the importance of my Accelerating Forest Management Act. Given that 29% of homes in Montana are at risk of wildfire damage, we must implement practical measures that empower the BLM to manage its lands efficiently, eliminate hazardous fuels, and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires.Image

During the Natural Resources Committee, I emphasized the Milk River Project's significance and the need to enhance water infrastructure in northern Montana. Access to reliable water is crucial for our farmers, ranchers, tribes, and rural communities, and local leaders must have the resources to advance these projects.

This week, during the Financial Services Committee hearing, I highlighted how bank-FinTech partnerships can help expand access to banking services in rural communities like those in Montana. Congress and regulators should foster innovation that strengthens competition, modernizes our banking system, and helps rural Americans access financial services.

Last weekend, I visited the Baker Post Office to hear directly from local residents about the ongoing service issues impacting the community. I called on the Postmaster General to act. Montanans deserve answers and access to the full range of reliable postal services their communities depend on.

As a combat veteran, Military Appreciation Month holds special meaning for me. This month, we honor the brave men and women who have worn the uniform, and the families who serve alongside them through sacrifice, strength, and unwavering support.ImageImage

This week, the House passed the Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act, legislation I was proud to cosponsor. Our veterans should never lose their constitutional rights simply because they need assistance managing their VA benefits. This bill protects due process and defends the Second Amendment rights of those who served our nation.

I had an amazing time at the Congressional Picnic with my lovely wife, Heather. A big thank you to President Trump and the White House team for putting together such a fantastic event that celebrates America and those who serve our nation every day.Image
